Simply Put...I think you pick these 4 players above any other post player in the 'Magic-Bird Era' which as defined by me began in 1979 with the addition of the 3 point line through the current time (Magic, and Bird also joined the NBA that same year). NUMBER 1-4 is debatable for many - I have my favorite HOWEVER NUMBER 1-4 I think is fairly clearly 3/4 to a whole step ahead of the NUMBER 5 top post player in the ERA....AT Number 5 I think you begin the debate of whether or not to go with Shaquille O'Neal, OR do you go with Kevin Garnett....the difference being that Shaquille is a dominant force in the paint...and Garnett is an all around player who can shoot anywhere, and as well as a good defender (Shaq is a good defender as well..) TOP 4 David Robinson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon REALLY they are all well rounded power houses...take your pick of what emphasis you want they all feed the whole table, but they also all bring a little something different to the table.

List Criteria: I think you pick these 4 players above any other post player in the "Magic-Bird Era"; which as defined by me began in 1979 with the addition of the 3 point through the current time (Magic, and Bird also joined the NBA in 1979). NUMBER 1-4 is debatable as to what order the 4 should go in for many. I have my preference; HOWEVER, NUMBER 1-4 I think are fairly clearly 3/4 to a whole step ahead of the NUMBER 5 top post player thus far in the "Magic-Bird Era". At Number 5 I think you begin the debate of whether or not to go with Shaquille O'Neal, or Kevin Garnett; the difference being that Shaq is a dominant force in the paint, and Garnett is an all around player who can shoot anywhere. My top 4: Robinson, Kareem, Duncan, Olajuwon REALLY they are all well rounded power houses; take your pick, and take your pick of what emphasis you want; they all feed the whole table, but they also bring an extra something different to the table as well.

Balanced - I view Robinson as the most balanced player; I rank him #2 on this list offensively, and #2 defensively to another player on this list...however, he could be debated as #1 offensively due to his ability to take over and score 71 points in a single game which he did once in the NBA.  He is the consumate team player, and teamed with Tim Duncan taking a secondary role to Duncan, and forming possibly the best Post Player duo in the History of the NBA.

Consistent. The most consistent offensive player on this list, and perhaps of all time. I also rank him as a close 4th best Defensive player on this list.
  3. 3

Balanced. I simply rank him as the 2nd most balanced player on this list next to David Robinson his former teammate.

Defense - I rate him as the best defensive post player in the "Magic-Bird Era"; he is also a good offensive player; and a good team minded player. I simply place him at #4 because I do not perceive that he had the best chemistry as a team player, although, a good effort...If I want a defensive emphasis at the post...then he is my first choice...if I want a defender almost as good as Hakeem, and a little more versatility then I choose Robinson...both Robinson, and Hakeem have superb quickness...
