Strawberries
Strawberries are thought to be among the strongest of all anticancer foods, and a recent study found that those who consumed the most strawberries in their diet were up to 70% less likely to develop many types of cancer. Many other deep colored varieties of berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, cranberries and blackberries, may share the anticancer properties of strawberries. Researchers credit the anthocyanins (the compounds which provide the bright color) in strawberries for for suppressing the proliferation of colon, prostate, and oral cancer cell cultures. Green tea
Scientists from the UK and Spain have discovered a compound found in green tea that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. The study confirmed that naturally occurring polyphenol EGCG prevents cancer cells from growing by binding to a specific enzyme, thereby stopping this enzyme from making DNA. According to scientists, this helps explain decreased rates of certain cancers in regular tea drinkers. Researchers hope that this breakthrough will lead to new anti-cancer drugs based on the structure of the EGCG molecule. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are rich in Lycopene, a potent cancer-fighting nutrient with strong antioxidant properties, which means that it helps to remove free radicals from your body. A recent Harvard study reported that risk of prostate cancer was a third lower in men who consumed more tomato products than average. Since then, new research has supported a link with tomato products and decreased risk of other cancers, including pancreatic cancer, lung and colorectal cancer. Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate is filled with antioxidants, proanthocyanidins, and polyphenols. These molecules slow the development of cancer cells in your body and hinder angiogenesis (an important step in the progression and growth of cancer). Most people are familiar with the anticancer benefits of red wine; however, a single square of dark chocolate has twice the anticancer properties of a glass of red wine. Red wine
Red wine is a rich source of biologically active phytochemicals, chemicals found in plants. Particular compounds called polyphenols found in red wine—such as catechins and resveratrol—are thought to have antioxidant and anticancer properties. Research on the antioxidants found in red wine has shown that they may help inhibit the development of certain cancers. Call 866-668-9263 for information on our integrative cancer treatment approach.
