    The Pardon of Courage

November 24, 2009. President Barack Obama pardoned Courage the turkey.

"He claimed he wanted to eat the turkey, but Sasha and Malia prevailed upon him to pardon it, sparing it "a terrible and delicious fate," so it could go to Disneyland for the rest of its days.

President Obama also joked, "There are days that remind me of why I ran for this office.... And then there are moments like this where I pardon a turkey and send it to Disneyland," he said to the laughing crowd."
