25 Companies that Paid Their CEOs More than Uncle Sam By Business and Company Info [81 more lists]
The nonprofit group Institute for Policy Studies has released a list of 25 Fortune 500 companies who paid their CEOs more than the companies paid in federal income tax in 2010. Yes, this list includes every company included on the IPS list: those who paid their CEOs more than Uncle Sam.
This list from the Institute for Policy Studies comes in the midst of tensions over companies and their federal taxes. Every company on this list (and there are giants, to be sure) paid their CEOs more than they shelled out in U.S. corporate income taxes in 2010.
Not all of the companies highlighted in this report agree with the findings. eBay says the report, which showed it paid CEO John Donahoe $12.4 million while the company got $131 million in federal tax benefits, says the IPS "misrepresented" financial reports and didn't factor in all of the taxes it pays (including not just corporate, but state, local and foreign government taxes).
For its part, the Institute for Policy Studies says this particular study did not include anything other than U.S. corporate taxes, because the intent of the study "was to call into question whether corporations are paying their fair share toward the cost of government."
