The top directors/producers that, for one reason or another, have deserved my utter disdain.

I place Ratner right after Singer for the purpose of saying that, however bad the first two X-Men movies were, "Bretner" was there to pick up the slack and make the franchise truly s**tty. Everything in that movie was poorly done, and he thinks he did awesome; like a kid bringing home a s**tty picture that you have to put on the fridge 'cuz they think it's special. I may be the only person saying this, but the Rush Hour series sucked too.

Martin Luther King is weeping in his grave because of all the s**tty black cinema Tyler Perry has made. A black guy in drag? I've never seen that before. It's not like African Americans have enough crap thrown their way by the Wayans clan. I repeat, stop doing everything, you are bringing down the respect of an entire race.

Got Ya. He's only on my s**t list in Bizzaro World. Keep going you magnificent Jew.

It's not so much that his body of work pisses me off, it's more his attitude. I was reading an interview with Barry, and they asked him about the standard s**t: Influences, who got you into movies, what did you want to be, etc. His answers were that he didn't really care for movies, and that opportunity was basically thrust at him. If it's not humility, then it's a lack of love for your work, and when an artist isn't emotionally invested in his work, it sucks.

I won't lie and say I don't enjoy a brainless action flick purely for entertainment now and again, but it does make me sad when they pull from such wonderful, long-running material and turn it into an hour and a half of 'oh my god everything's happening so fast look at all the explosions' and then the credits roll...disappointing.

I hated what he did to Superman Returns...Brandon Routh was so perfect...

Ugh, YES. He wasn't just a pretty good Superman, he was a GREAT Clark Kent.

Although, maybe it's more important to be a good Superman than it is to be a good Clark Kent. Cause if the guy's a s**tty Clark Kent, that's fine because, frankly, Superman is a s**tty Clark Kent.

Looking forward to Cavill either way.

You seem very passionate about this topic. And to be honest with you I kind of agree. I never saw X-Men 3 but from what I heard it was halfassed. And ya they don'e even care about the viewers or anything like that. Im excited to see your list of directors that you do like.

This list is not about who I like, that is one for another time and is on my lists of lists. As stated above, I do very much adore Judd Apatow and his work, so he is on this list simply for comedic value. As for Ratner, I dislike that he halfassed X-men 3, and that in general his movies are done for the same reason as Michael Bay's. They only see their viewers as walking money bags, and have no interest in doing anything for other than making assloads of cash, rather than making something special. I love low art done by smart individuals, but they have no interest in new ideas or anything original; their movies are a bright shiny $100 million dust cover over a rusty broken down El Camino.

Brett Ratner at 11/12/2009 2:22 PM
so many people hate on brett ratner. is it just because the guy has a personality? i think the man knows how to make a blockbuster and please the mass. his movies aren't meant to appreciated by film gurus. that's not the point.

kudos for including Tyler Perry in this...if I want to see an emotionally unbalanced old black lady obsessed with herself, I can take a drive through Watts for free.
