I've never heard of this author. I'm intrigued. What are the running themes in his works?

He deals a lot with the determination to recognize beauty and spiritual wisdom in a world and time when conditions seem bent on obliterating such things. But that's mostly in his poetry and fiction. He writes journalism, essays, and history that deals with more straightforward contemporary issues as well. His versatility is one of the things he's most celebrated for.
