Ranker is crowdsourced rankings of everything - topics both entertaining and practical. We are also a platform for individual and fact-based lists, but our primary goal is to use the wisdom of crowds to deliver the best opinions possible about any topic where a list is the best answer. Anyone can participate simply by voting or reranking lists, and the more who do, the better the ranking gets. Our ranking algorithms have been honed by years of testing and study, and we have protections against gaming the system.

Ranker launched in August of 2009, and since then, we've seen a lot of growth in terms of new users and engagement on the site. We're now up to 20 million unique visitors, and we're serving over 300 million monthly page views; what's more, those numbers are growing every day. And perhaps most importantly, people love to vote on Ranker lists - over 2 million votes are cast each month.

    Advertise On Ranker

Ranker is broken into distinct verticals - each of which is highly targeted. By their nature, lists are about something, and thus deliver more relevant ad impressions. We can deliver high volumes across the site, but if you want some specifically targeted content, we can deliver meaningful volume across several discrete verticals.

Our traffic is Quantcast certified. 65% of our visitors come from North America, and 8% of visitors from the UK and Ireland. We are also a Top 100 Quantcast site for mobile web.

Ranker is independently owned (advertising inquiries - email ads AT ranker.com). Ranker is also a member of the Spin Entertainment network.

We would never be able to achieve our goals of having the best rankings possible without you, the users - over 2 million of you have voted on lists to date. Ranker has had a vibrant community since we launched, and while almost 2/3 of our traffic is from North America, we get millions of visitors each month from the rest of the world. Users (you) are constantly making lists, adding items to Open Lists, and voting on lists that shape the rankings.

We have also launched a proper Ranker forum (hey - better late than never, right?)

Also, in addition to the "Data" blog below, we have a "regular" Ranker blog as well, where we highlight new features to the site and occasional funny tidbits.

Check out Ranker's Data Blog for a look at all the insights we are gathering all the time about the tastes and preferences of people all over the world, as well as a more thorough look at the science behind Ranker's algorithms and methodolgy.

Every day, we're collecting thousands of votes on our lists, gathering opinions on everything from the best colleges to top NHL Defensemen to the most delicious food trucks. So it'd be a total waste not to comb through all of that information on everyone's tastes and try to learn a thing or two.

    Clark Benson

Clark is the CEO and founder of Ranker, his fifth startup. Ranker is a crowdsourced platform that consumers visit over 14 million times a month to view, rank, and vote on broad opinion-based questions ranging from the best board games to hottest celebrities to best inexpensive cars. Outside of a few verticals such as travel and restaurants, crowdsourced answers in list format are spotty or nonexistent, even as consumer demand for opinion-based answers is far outpacing other queries. Ranker is the “Yelp for everything else” to consumers. Ranker is backed by Draper Associates, Rincon Venture Partners, Siemer Ventures, Data Collective, Gil Elbaz, Tech Coast Angels and Pasadena Angels.

Ranker is Clark's fifth love (yes, he ranks EVERYTHING). In Clark's own words, Ranker ranks behind "his wife, his parents, his twins and his pet eel (except when he bites, then I drop him down the list)." Before Ranker, Clark was the founder and CEO of Almighty Music Marketing and the CEO of eCrush.com, a top 10 online dating service (acquired by Hearst). He also authored College: Your Guide To The Best Five Years of Your Life, which was published twice in the mid-90’s.

We also have a distributed app, and a program to help publishers and personalities take advantage of our platform to create customized content that helps promote their brand across the web. A special shout-out to our data partners, Factual and Freebase. No, not THAT freebase, we like our hair too much to risk lighting it on fire... Freebase is a wonderful open-source collection of data about everything, and we couldn't rank the universe without either of 'em.

    The Miracle Mile

    Ranker Video v
Ranker.com was founded in 2008 but the site wasn't launched until August 2009. There was a closed beta for a few months before we opened it up to the public.

We used to have a home office in Hollywood, CA, right on the Walk of Fame. But that office lacked a few of the basic comforts of life (like windows!), so we've since switched to a high-rise on Los Angeles' Wilshire Boulevard, in a neighborhood known as The Miracle Mile.

LA's Miracle Mile was founded in the early 1920s and was the first development of Wilshire as a commercial district. Today, it's among LA's most densely populated neighborhoods. It has also been the setting of numerous films, including "Volcano" (in which it was covered by magma) and "Miracle Mile" (in which LA is about to be decimated by a nuclear explosion.)
