    Clark Benson

    Clark is the CEO and founder of Ranker. The website is his fifth startup. If you're curious, you can learn more about him via his lists .

    Ranker is Clark's fifth love (yes, he ranks EVERYTHING).

    In Clark's own words, we rank behind "his wife, his parents, his twins and his pet eel (except when he bites, then I drop him down the list)."

    Data

    Check out Ranker's Data Blog for a look at all the insights we are gathering all the time about the tastes and preferences of our users, as well as a more thorough look at the science behind Ranker's algorithms and methodolgy.

    Every day, we're collecting thousands of votes on our lists, gathering opinions on everything from the best colleges to top NHL Defensemen to the most delicious food trucks. So it'd be a total waste not to comb through all of that information on everyone's tastes and try to learn a thing or two.

    Facebook

    You can now link your Ranker account to your Facebook account, which will let you quickly share the things you do on Ranker with your friends on Facebook. You can also link up your Twitter, Gmail and Yahoo accounts, because we're cool like that.

    Investors

    Clark Benson was the original seed investor for Ranker. Since then Ranker has raised money in a few investment rounds. 

    Ranker's institutional investors are Draper Associates, Rincon Venture Partners, Siemer Ventures, Data Collective, Gil Elbaz, and Newport Coast Ventures. Additionally, Ranker has numerous angel investors, including members of both Tech Coast Angels and Pasadena Angels.

    We're always looking for smart Java developers and in-the-know Internet types (marketing, product, biz dev, etc) with strong experience and a lot of Web knowledge. Applications are always welcome at Ranker.

    A special shout-out to our data partners, Factual and Freebase. No, not THAT freebase, we like our hair too much to risk lighting it on fire... Freebase is a wonderful open-source collection of data about everything, and we couldn't rank the universe without either of 'em.

    Stats

    Ranker launched in August of 2009, and since then, we've seen a lot of growth in terms of new users and engagement on the site. We're now up to 6.5 million monthly unique visitors, and we're serving over 120 million monthly ad impressions; what's more, those numbers are growing every day. And perhaps most importantly, people love to vote on Ranker lists - just under a million votes are cast each month.

    The Miracle Mile

    Ranker.com was founded in 2008 but the site wasn't launched until August 2009. There was a closed beta for a few months before we opened it up to the public.

    We used to have a home office in Hollywood, CA, right on the Walk of Fame. But that office lacked a few of the basic comforts of life (like windows!), so we've since switched to a high-rise on Los Angeles' Wilshire Boulevard, in a neighborhood known as The Miracle Mile.

    LA's Miracle Mile was founded in the early 1920s and was the first development of Wilshire as a commercial district. Today, it's among LA's most densely populated neighborhoods. It has also been the setting of numerous films, including "Volcano" (in which it was covered by magma) and "Miracle Mile" (in which LA is about to be decimated by a nuclear explosion.)
