A year ago, pregnant with twins- I spent a lot of time researching the best crib options for us. I'm an Eco-conscious person so wanted cribs that were made from sustainably sourced materials and had non-toxic finishes. We also, are a modern household so good looking design was important. Most of the cribs that fit into this description (Nurseryworks, Oeuf, Muu) were just ridiculously too expensive. We had to buy 2 cribs! I did my research and settled on Modo by Babyletto - and a year later, we still love them. It's awesome how many more options there are a year later. Here's a selection of the best ones out there, all under $500!!!

    Nurseryworks Twinkle

    Gotta love Target - they always partner with great designers. They had an awesome Dewll crib a few years back. This is their new designer crib from Nurseryworks. Such a cool modern design,. It's convertible and made from New Zealand pine with non-toxic finishes. $299.

    Davinci, makes a range of affordable cribs. The Kalani is a convertible made with New Zealand pine and non-toxic finishes. It is JPMA certified. This one is a 4 in 1 - converts ultimately into a full bed, so you will have until your kid is a youth! They also ship smartly. $249.

    Babyletto Modo

    This is the crib that we settled on. It's modern looking with clean lines and converts into a toddler bed - comes with rails. It is lead and phalate free with a non-toxic finish. JPMA certified. We got the eco mattress from the same manufacturer. $389.

    IKEA

    If you are on a tight budget, Ikea has many decent crib options. They source as much as possible from sustainable materials and everything is made at European environmental standards - which are much tougher than the US. They have many options including Guiliver $99.99 and Sundvik $119.00.

    Argington Bambam

    This is so cool, wish it was out a year ago!!! It's a whole system from bassinet to crib to toddler bed. All on caster locked wheels. It also comes with a mattress pad and cover for the bassinet. Made form E-Zero birch that was harvested sustainably. $449.
