Territory of Papua and New Guinea at 4/28/2012 8:23 PM
The "Territory" of Papua New Guinea was called a "territory" when it was administered by Australia as an external territory. However, PNG gained independence from Australia all the way back in 1975. Yes, it's no longer a "territory" -- it's simply been called Papua New Guinea ever since independence.

Because PNG is no longer an Australian external territory, Australia's capital (Canberra) is not PNG's capital. PNG's capital is Port Moresby. PNG doesn't use the Australian dollar, either. Their currency is the PNG kina.

It's time you found some reference material about PNG that was less than 37 years out of date.
