Best Economically Disadvantaged Schools: Top US High Schools By School Buddy [16 more lists]
Schools that enroll high proportions of economically disadvantaged students tend to face challenges when it comes to statistical measures of academic performance. But that's not always the case, as demonstrated by the success of these America's best economically disadvantaged schools. Here the roof leaks, kids eat lunch in the hallways because the cafeteria is too small, and rats sometimes raid the vending machines. But this has not dampened the spirits of these financially challenged schools in educating the best and brightest students in a broken-down building. These are the most economically disadvantaged schools in US, yet rank among the top high schools.
These high schools, which include magnet high schools and even a few charter schools, find a way to provide a quality education with little means. Many specialize in one vocational area or area of study, but all do the job well.
If anything, one should look up at these schools, making them an example for other schools which receive more funding. More fortunate schools can learn a thing or two from these economically disadvantaged schools as even in the face of adversity, they rank among the top high schools in the United States.
