This list of the best fiction books
of 2013 includes novels from several genres, including mystery and suspense ('The Redeemer' by Jo Nesbo, John Le Carre's 'A Delicate Truth'), historical fiction ('Life After Life' by Kate Atkinson) and of course, science fiction and fantasy ('The Ocean at the End of the Lane' by Neil Gaiman, 'The Golem and the Jinni: A Novel' by Helene Wecker). And yes, young adult fiction, or YA books, are also included on this list ('Allegiant' by Veronica Roth was certainly notable, as was 'Eleanor & Park' by Rainbow Rowell).
2013 was also a year for readers to revisit some of the most popular characters in fiction. Stephen King offered up 'Doctor Sleep,' a sequel of sorts to his wildly successful 1977 novel 'The Shining', and John Grisham's 'Sycamore Row' revisits Jake Brigance from 'A Time to Kill.'
