Best Of: Urban Fantasy Authors By ariannafelidae [40 more lists]
For those who aren't familiar with this genre: it is basically fantasy or sci-fi that takes place in a modern day city-like setting. These are the authors who have made me laugh, cry and shake my fist at the sky because their next book wasn't released yet.
If I didn't list your absolute favorite urban fantasy author and OMG-WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?-leave a comment so I can get in on the action... ;)

Otherworld Series:
Bitten
Stolen
Dime Store Magic
Industrial Magic
Haunted
Broken
No Humans Involved
Personal Demon
Living With the Dead
Frostbitten
Waking the Witch
Spell Bound
I love her storytelling technique. She smoothly floats around the same world using different characters within it to narrate the story. Sometimes a book will be narrated by someone you've never met before and is meeting all the characters you already know and love. Other times, it's told from the perspective of a character you haven't heard from since 5 books ago. Either way, it keeps the story very, very interesting! I would easily say she's my second favorite author! -

Vampire Huntress Series:
Minion
The Awakening
The Hunted
The Bitten
The Forbidden
The Damned
The Forsaken
The Wicked
The Cursed
The Darkness
The Shadows
The Thirteenth
Crimson Moon Series:
Bad Blood
Bite the Bulllet
Undead on Arrival
Cursed to Death
Never Cry Werewolf
Left for Undead
I've only read her 'Crimson Moon' series (as I have an affinity for any type of shape-shifting creature-especially werewolves), but her 'Vampire Huntress' series, I've been told, is well worth reading, as well. On a much sadder note, we won't be getting anything new from this author because she passed away this past August. She was a credit to the genre. -
Morgan Kingsley Series:
The Devil Inside
The Devil You Know
The Devil's Due
Speak of he Devil
The Devil's Playground
This series is fun! It's about an exorcist for hire-and not the Father Merrin type-but the kick-ass female type! It's a little raunchy at times and not for the overly conservative, but he plot line and storytelling is solid and the heroine is someone you can root for. -

Mercy Thompson Series:
Moon Called
Blood Bound
Iron Kissed
Bone Crossed
Silver Borne
River Marked
I love reading these. As I've mentioned-I love me some shape-shifters and this series is about a 'walker' (basically the Native American/coyote version of a werewolf!) and an entire pack of wonderfully written werewolves. The lead lady is a feisty mechanic who practically shouts at trouble to get off it's ass and come and get her. I'm always eagerly awaiting the next installment... -
Cassandra Palmer Series:
Touch the Dark
Claimed by Shadow
Embrace the Night
Curse the Dawn
Hunt the Moon
This series has a really cool take on quite a few things. There are mages (calm down, it's still modern-day) who carry more weapons than humanly possible, a quirky ghost sidekick-type-guy and a heroine who kind of didn't ask for any of this but what the hell, let's give it a go. It's also got a really neat way of adding time travel into the mix. Woot.
