Canadian Celebrities Who Should Play Survivor
For as long as Survivor has been on the air in the United States, Canadian fans have often watched and dreamt of being stranded on a desert island. Alas, there has never been a Survivor produced in the Great White North, and only contestants with U.S. citizenship are allowed to risk getting their torches snuffed by Jeff Probst. Excluding celebrities who are disgustingly rich like Jim Carrey who has a net worth of 150 million, or William Shatner with a net worth of 650 million, if Canadians were allowed to be contestants on Survivor, who should be on that list to get onto Survivor?
List Criteria: Canadians who would make great castaways, but do not exceed the 20 million in net worth ballpark.
- 1Up 21Down 6
1957“ Castaway potential: Not only would he be a physical threat in challenges, but Bret has a great storyline. Aside from being an entertainer with great charisma that translates well on screen, he knows what bussiness is all about having experienced it first hand. His physical and social dimensions are certainly great, and could take him far. That said, does he have it in him to play strategically, and backstab if it was in his best interest to do so?
„ - 2Up 17Down 5
1974“ Castaway potential: He's a huge fan and student of the game. Negreanu tutored Boston Rob on how to play poker professionally in 2006, and they have remained good friends. The real Kid Poker's tutoring credentials are impressive - having won four World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour Championship titles.
„ - 3Up 15Down 3
1953“ Castaway potential: It would be hard to do a Canadian Survivor without thinking about the Great White North's Rick Moranis. Largely absent from the public eye since his retirement from the movie industry in 1997, he has raised his kids as a single parent after the loss of his wife in 1991. Rumours as early as 2010 hint that he may come out of retirement. Having become increasingly disenfranchised with studio executives on big budget projects prior to his departure from Hollywood, perhaps going back to the small screen would be a draw to tell his story.
„ - 4Up 17Down 7
1982“ Castaway potential: Best known for her time playing Kim Bauer on the Fox action thriller series 24 that ran from 2001 to 2010. Regularly ranks high on most Maxim or FHM 'hottest women' lists. Offscreen, she is best known for creating alliances with large hockey players.
„ - 5Up 14Down 5
1971“ Castaway potential: Casting Tom Green is probably the closest thing to getting someone to fit the Greg Buis mould. His shock humour, zany antics, and enigmatic nature would probably play well for the camera, cause tension in the camp, and create some much needed unpredictablilty to the game.
„ - 6Up 11Down 4
1983“ Castaway potential: Maryse is a French Canadian glamour model, professional wrestler, and business woman. She began her career in the public eye as a prize-winning bikini pageant contestant, winning the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Canada 2003 competition, and placing second at the 2004 Miss Hawaiian Tropic International Finals. Her involvement with the WWE between 2006 and 2011 is what she's best known for. A black belt in Kyokushin karate, she won her first martial arts competition at 12 years old. Maryse also has a degree in Business Administration.
„ - 7Up 12Down 7
1986“ Castaway potential: Jayde was Playboy′s Playmate of the Month for January 2007 and was named the 2008 Playmate in June. Due to hooking up with Brody Jenner, she slinked her way onto season 5 of MTV's, the Hills, where she ended up fighting with regulars Audrina Patridge, and Kristin Cavallari over Jenner's affections. She also brought her trolling skills to E!'s reality show, Holly's World, where showgirl Angel Porrino threw a drink in her face and yelled at her to go back to Canada. Jayde is also a poker player, having appeared on Fox Sports' PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge. On paper, this social climber who doesn't care about being branded a bad girl is perfect for Survivor.
„ - 8Up 14Down 8
1971“ Castaway potential: Bif Naked is a survivor. She’s seen what the view is like from the top as a multi-platinum record selling Canadian singer-songwriter, and knows what it's like to have to strive for continued success despite health problems. She persists in her fight with breast cancer having released a new album in early 2012.
„ - 9Up 9Down 4
1975“ Castaway potential: She's best known for her tenure at the WWE, where she won seven Women's Championship titles, the most in WWE history. While she retired from the wrestling business in 2006 after nearly 7 years of loyalty to the McMahons, that hasn't stopped her from pursuing other opportunities in front of the camera. She trained as a volunteer police officer on the CBS reality show, 'Armed & Famous', and hosted the summer reality show, 'The Second City's Next Comedy Legend'.
„ - 10Up 11Down 5
1970“ Castaway potential: What exactly would you get with this guy? A villain? A hero? A bible quoting confessional machine? A lightning rod for trouble? A saint? Perhaps all of the above. If he were able to take a 39 day holiday from wrestling and his business ventures with Tim Tebow, you've got to stick him on an island with a camera on him twenty-four seven because something big will probably happen.
„ - 11Up 10Down 6
1963“ Castaway potential: He was born and raised in Quebec City to a father who served with the Canadian Army during World War II and helped liberate the Netherlands. A stand-up comedian, writer, producer and actor, he is best known for his five seasons as a cast member on Saturday Night Live where he anchored for the mock news seqment Weekend Update for three years. His ability to switch from deadpan humour and brilliant irony to complete sincerity would be a big asset in this game.
„ - 12Up 7Down 3
1967“ Castaway potential: Her stock has definitely dropped over the years, but she has certainly proven that she's not above using her name to get onto reality TV and behind the lens for some exposure. The Ex-Playboy model's last foray into reality television was on "Dancing On Ice" where she was eliminated first.
„ - 13Up 6Down 2
1974“ Castaway potential: Raised in rural Alberta on her family's grain farm, and discovered by a modeling agency scout at 17, Tricia has been in front of the lens ever since. She is best known for playing the humanoid Cylon Number Six on Battlestar Galactica. Although she suffered some mishaps that have resulted in her getting artificial discs to help support her 5' 11" frame, it does speak to her competitive nature that she is willing to put herself in danger to do her own stunts.

1981“ Castaway potential: The only thing that might prevent him from reaching the top of this list is his success and already high profile in the octagon. Does an MMA fighter have the right physique to deal with the hunger and dehydration in order to live up to the expectations of doing well in the physical challenges on Survivor?
„ - 16Up 4Down 4
Sahar Biniaz
1986“ Castaway Potential: Sahar, winner of the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant, is a promising Vancouver actress of Iranian descent. She has had success in a number of beauty pagents, having previously placed 1st Runner-up at 2003 Miss Global Beauty Queen, 2nd Runner-up at 2008 Miss Tourism Queen International, and 1st Runner-up at 2008 Miss Universe Canada. Does she have what it takes to follow in the footsteps of other succcessful beauty queen Survivor contestants such as Danni Boatwright, and Amanda Kimmel?
„ - 17Up 3Down 2
1957“ Castaway potential: Peter North was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Much like Survivor legend, Brian Heidik, he eventually relocated to California to pursue a career in...acting. Since 1982, he has appeared in over 2000 films, and has directed more than 70 movies. Much like a professional athlete, he follows a strict diet and training regimen. Other parallels to Brian Heidik include a love of muscle cars, women, and professional sports. Considering his background, he may very well play like 'The Iceman' himself.

Jenna Talackova
1988“ Castaway potential: Jenna's disqualification from the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant made international headlines when the organizers protested on grounds that the pageant rules required its competitors to be "naturally born" women. Sources remain unclear as to whether she identified herself as transgender on her application before she was selected as a Top 65 applicant. However, after contacting high profile lawyer Gloria Allred, Talackova never went to court as the organization relented, and reversed its original ruling. This Canadian model with reality television aspirations is someone to watch for in 2013.
„ - 20Up 6Down 6
Kimiko Zakreski
1983“ Castaway potential: Kimiko is a Canadian professional snowboarder, and MTV reality star who grew up in Calgary Alberta. She was just old enough to experience Calgary's 1988 Winter Olympic Games, inspiring her to become a consummate athlete. As one who believes that fortune favours the brave, she is always active. Besides snowboarding, she enjoys horseback riding, road biking, weight lifting, and yoga. Her adaptability would serve her well on Survivor.
„ - 21Up 5Down 5
1974“ Castaway potential: While the mechanics of the game are a big part of the success of Survivor, casting diverse people who might play differently is important to keep things interesting and not so predictable on a show that has been running for over a decade . At first sight, Grace is someone you could picture on a Survivor cast, but there's more to her than her looks. Mostly known for playing Boomer on Battlestar Galactica, Kono on Hawaii Five-0, and making several Hot 100 lists in Maxim, Grace's appearance conceals years more life experience than a glance would suggest. Born in 1974, Grace got her first acting role for the small screen at 23, and has a degree in psychology from the University of British Columbia.
„ - 22Up 3Down 3
1978“ Castaway potential: Born in Calgary, and raised in Three Hills Alberta, she is perhaps best known for her role as Lois Lane on the WB/CW series Smallville. Currently, she is playing a lead role and producing a medical drama series titled, Saving Hope.
„ - 23Up 3Down 3
1969“ Castaway potential: Born in Toronto, Rick Fox is a former pro basketball player who played for the Boston Celtics, and the Los Angeles Lakers. After his career in the NBA that lasted 13 years, Rick found success as a television actor. Of late, he has been appearing on the TV series, 'Mr. Box Office'. After demonstrating that reality TV is not beneath him by appearing on 'Dancing With The Stars' in late 2010, it was reported that he was going to apply for American Citizenship, but that process has still not worked itself out apparently. If he were to play in a Canadian produced Survivor - the only way he could play at the moment, his natural charm, charisma, and physical fitness would probably serve him well in the game.

Donovan Bailey
1967“ Castaway potential: Donovan Bailey is the former world record holder of the 100 meter race following his gold medal performance at the 1996 Olympic Games. A huge personality, he is not one to shy away from talking smack to his opponents. In a 150 meter race that received international media attention, a race that Donovan initially refused to take part in, he humiliated Michael Johnson, the holder of the 200 meter record at the time who claimed to be 'the world's fastest man'.
„ - 26Up 4Down 6
1957“ Castaway potential: Colin Mochrie is an incredible improvisational comedian and actor. He is best known for his appearances on the U.S. and U.K. versions of Whose Line Is It Anyways? This is a guy made for hanging out with the producers to do confessionals.
„ - 27Up 4Down 6
1970“ Castaway potential: Dubbed 'the Magic Indian' by Charlie Sheen on his Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour, Russell has become an increasingly popular and successful comedian worldwide. He fits the mould of a Rob Cesternino, or a Tyson Apostol, but his Anglo-Indian ancestry is a bonus for those in casting who often look for diversity. He's someone who no one will vote out because when there's nothing to do, and people are bored, Russell is someone who can entertain you.
„ - 28Up 3Down 5
1934“ Castaway potential: Probably one of the most essential castaway archetypes on a season of Survivor is the Rudy Boesch character who constantly says un-pc things. Don Cherry fits that bill to a tee. His willingness to say exactly what's on his mind despite warnings to toe the line at CBC have made him a hero among many viewers. He's already proven for decades that he's not shy in front of a camera, so he'd make a great character on the show.
