Bell's palsy (sometimes commonly referred to as Bells palsy) is a condition that causes facial paralysis, where there is no known illness associated with the paralysation. The condition appears quickly, often overnight. Viruses can cause Bell's palsy and while the paralysation is usually temporary, some individuals permanently lose mobility in part of their face.

The Gravity actor had Bell's palsy when he was in middle school. In 2003, Clooney spoke to the Daily Mirror about his Bell's palsy stating, “That was the worst time of my life. You know how cruel kids can be. I was mocked and taunted, but the experience made me stronger.” Clooney has fully recovered from the condition. Comedian Roseanne Barr had Bell's palsy when she was just three years old. She has fully recovered from the condition. Other famous women who have had Bell's palsy include Amy Brenneman, Katie Holmes, Joe Mantegna, and Jane Greer.
