Community - Season 1“ This episode had three things going for it: Dean Pelton, Professor Duncan, and Senor Chang. These three character made the show hilarious even though the study group characters were still having a little trouble carrying the show. Senor Chang in particular stole the show with his reaction to finding a crib sheet. When Britta admits that it's her's, a tribunal is called consisting of the three aforementioned characters. Jeff represents her which is fairly entertaining, particularly when he tries to use September 11 to get her off. When Jeff objects to Senor Chang being on the tribunal because he's the accuser, Chang points out that Duncan is Jeff's drinking buddy, and the Dean comments that things should be fine since there's a bias on both sides and he goes both ways, then asks that said comment be stricken from the record referencing both his sexual ambiguity and his overly sensitive political correctness. Duncan and Chang's animosity is especially hilarious. The scene where they start yelling at each other in the men's locker room where a naked man is showering has the best lines of the episode:
Duncan (to naked man): "You're very confident, I'll say that."
Chang (also to naked man): "But you shouldn't be."
The study group's storylines of Abed trying to convince Troy that he is an alien and Pierce trying to write the new school song, and accidentally stealing Bruce Hornsby's 'The Way It Is", were cute but still not quite on par with Community standards. „ - 19

Community - Season 2 - 22 Community - Season 1“ As with many of the early episodes, Abed and Chang were the highlights, but the other characters started to shine a little here. Troy had some good one-liners (foreshadowing f*ture great ones) and his conversation with Abed at the end about his fear of waking up as a doughnut and eating himself felt a lot like him coming out of his shell. Annie, Britta and Shirley were all pretty good in this episode, mostly because of their costumes, and Pierce was very funny tripping on ecstasy while dressed as the Beastmaster. This is the first episode with Professor Slater who I don't have a strong opinion on one way or another, though Jeff taking Chang's advice to beg her to sleep with him was funny. The best part of the episode was Abed dressed as Batman, complete with raspy voice. It made everything he said comic gold.
Still not Community at its best but there are a lot of signs of it's f*ture ambition. I.e. Abed/Batman rescuing Jeff and Pierce from a collapsing chair fort. „ - 23
