While many of these books may have since had their true author discovered, they were all originally published with a pseudonym. Most often, this happens because a book deals with controversial or political subject matters. In other instances, the writer simply wishes to maintain their privacy. Some book series are published under a pseudonym to hide that they were written by a collection of ghost writers instead of one central author. As mentioned above, in many cases the true writers were discovered after publication. Such cases have been noted below.
