Despite what many may think, there have been reports of organ transplants dating as far back as ancient Rome. The hurdle throughout the millennia, however, has always been transplant rejection. But thank to modern medicine and the discovery of sufficiently powerful immunosuppressant drugs, organ transplants and other forms of reconstructive surgery such as skin and musculoskeletal grafts are now as common as ever. Kidney transplants are the most popular followed by liver and hearts. Most recently, we've also begun to see full facial transplants.
