Celebrities, politicians and pundits who have publicly supported or endorsed the Occupy Wall Street movement. Many of these stars who support Occupy Wall Street - such as Kanye West, Michael Moore and singer Jeff Mangum - have even gone down to the protests in person to share in the experience and help rally the crowd!

The Occupy Wall Street protests began in New York City's Zuccotti Park on September 17th, 2011. The idea for the protest has been credited to Canadian magazine Adbusters, which proposed a peaceful occupation of Wall Street to protest the growing disparity between rich and poor in America, along with what they viewed as excessive corporate influence over government.

The movement started to spread soon after, and now sympathetic protests are being held in hundreds of cities - large and small - across America, and even in other countries. A number of other organizations, particularly labor unions, have also expressed solidarity with the movement.

Almost immediately, celebrities started endorsing the Occupy Wall Street (sometimes abbreviated as OWS) protests, even in the early days when they were largely being criticized as disorganized, excessively angry or purposeless. Comedian Roseanne, who joined the protests on September 19th, is commonly viewed as the first celebrity to endorse the movement.
