Nothing else can match the impact on the Daily Show for me this decade. The show emerged as the first place where sanity returned to television after 9/11. Through the decade the quality has continued, Stewart kept his perspective, and he when he took a stand on something, it proved more effective than I would have thought possible.

We went from Clinton to Bush to Obama. I wouldn't have thought that the West Wing would keep it's appeal to me so strongly as real presidents came and went, but it has.

I'm no cook, so why would I want to watch this show? That's what I thought, but watching the show with my wife, I got hooked so quickly. This show captures the competition element that a sports fan like me craves, all while keeping it neat to a one hour per week commitment.

This show absolutely nailed the vibe of the Nero Wolfe novels. Murder mystery + noir + odd couple banter.

A fascinating series about a detective in World War II Britain, exploring the domestic crimes (profiteering, etc) taking place within the overriding context of fear the nation felt.
  10. 10
    Stephen Colbert

Rarely is a spin-off as successful as the Report. While technically not on the show itself, Colbert's in-character toast of Bush is the greatest piece of satire in this era.

Fading now, but was absolute gold at its best. Some will object to me putting the American version here instead of the British, but for me, the Amarican version had a warmth to it that really made it all come together.

Grace Park, Kandyse McClure, Lucy Lawless More

A really damn good sci-fi series. Not perfect, but a hell of a lot smarter than I would have thought any remake under this moniker could possibly be.

For a couple seasons this was my favorite show on television. Got a bit crazy toward the end, but the initial story arch was built brilliantly.

Rich Sommer, Michael Gladis, John Slattery More

My favorite program currently. It hasn't been around long enough yet to rank highly as an all-time favorite, but man, is this show smartly done.
