For many people, books are the perfect means of escape from the everyday world. Whether you’re trying to live a fantastical life through the words of a creative author or trying to leave your worries behind, a book is often the best and most powerful tool. Contained within a book is a completely different world that is filled with characters, settings, and stories that are worth getting lost in. Many fictional characters, just like us, enjoy reading and joining the imaginary world of a book. The characters on this list are voracious readers, whether it’s for knowledge or pleasure.

Characters like Lisa Simpson, Rory Gilmore, and Daria Morgendorffer always have their noses in a book. Klaus Baudelaire, from A Series of Unfortunate Events and Hermione Granger, from the Harry Potter series, use their love for reading to get out of tricky situations all the time. Beauty and the Beast’s Belle fell in love with a monster at least partially because of his enormous library. Matilda Wormwood even grew supernatural powers because of her reading habit.
