List Rules Vote up the absolute WORST changes George Lucas made to the original Star Wars trilogy

To say that the original Star Wars trilogy is one of the most beloved movie properties would be a gross understatement. As far as box office gold goes, the three films in the original trilogy grossed over $1 billion combined. And that's just box office receipts, and not including the endless lines of merchandise, licenses and so on. It would seem that if it ain't broke you probably don't need to fix it, but you aren't George Lucas. The man behind the franchise, in addition to some not exactly beloved prequels, made some serious and controversial changes to the original films, and many fans just can't even with the Star Wars Blu Ray and DVD releases. What are the worst changes George Lucas made to the original Star Wars films?

Lucas's tinkering of the original trilogy started much earlier than people realize. Some changes were small and purely aesthetic, others were earth (Alderaan?) shattering to die-hard fans. Countless theatrical, laser disc, DVD and Blu Ray releases later, Star Wars fans have taken to the Internet and to the theaters to battle Lucas, making it clear that it is better to leave well enough alone.

Not that Lucas cares much. When interviewed by the Associated Press, Lucas gave an insight as to why so many changes were made to the original trilogy: "The special edition ones are the films I wanted to make. Anybody that makes films knows that film is never finished." Even though fans have been more than vocal about wanting, at least, the option of watching the original 1977 release, Lucas has turned a deaf ear. "I’m sorry if you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it, but I want it to be the way I want it to be.”

Well, then. Get some of that Lucas rage out below by voting up the most offensive, totally worst changes he made to those perfect, precious, defining films from the original Star Wars trilogy. It probably won't change the fact that now, apparently, Greedo shot first (BLASPHEMY), but it'll at least be cathartic.

Greedo Shoots First

The 20th Anniversary re-release of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope featured a change that would forever rock the geek universe. Han Solo shooting first establishes his character as a rogue. Lucas's change, that Greedo shot first with Han retaliating in self defense, destroys this subtle, yet crucial character introduction.

During a Reddit AMA, Redditors wanted Harrison Ford to set the record straight and asked who shot first. Ford replied: "I don't know and I don't care."

"Familiar" Faces at the End of Return of the Jedi

Replacing Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christensen at the end of Episode VI gives Greedo shooting first a run for its money. Probably the worst offense is in that final image, with Christensen's head, taken from earlier costume tests, superimposed on Shaw's body.

Vader Screaming Nooooooo! in Return of the Jedi

In the 2011 Blu Ray release of Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader screams "Noooooo," not once, but twice as he throws the Emperor to his death.

Vader's silent struggle for redemption was far more powerful than two unnecessary additions of vapid dialogue. Silence can be, truly, golden.

Here Come the Gungans in Return of the Jedi

Here Come the Gungans in Retur... is listed (or ranked) 4 on the list The Worst Lucas Changes to the Original Star Wars Films

Does the audience really need to hear a Gungan proclaim "We's-a free" just after the second Death Star is defeated?  What a way to kill an otherwise triumphant moment towards which the other films had been building.
