Golden Globes Best Director, Movie Nominees
The Golden Globes Best Director Movie nominees include many veteran filmmakers who bring a movie's characters to life with their outstanding abilities. A good director can draw out an actor's true talents, making them shine on film. Great directors are visionaires, and those incredible visions often lead them to garner Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Director in a Motion Picture. Some of the five directors nominated in this category each year go on to become Academy Awards nominees and winners, as well. The winner of the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Movie Director was Martin Scorsese for 'Hugo.'
Many of the Golden Globe Award for Best Director in a Motion Picture have been nominated multiple times, including the highly influential Elia Kazan, who was nominated four times and won...four times! Other past multiple nominees include Steven Spielberg (nominated 10 times but he's only won twice), Clint Eastwood and Milos Forman. Some of the nominees and/or winners in the Golden Globe Best Director category do go on to win Oscar gold. Most recently, they include Danny Boyle for 'Slumdog Millionaire,' Martin Scorsese for 'The Departed' and 'Hugo,' Ang Lee for 'Brokeback Mountain' and Clint Eastwood for 'Million Dollar Baby.' Winning a Golden Globe Best Director award doesn't guarantee success at the Academy Awards. Case in point: In 2010, David Fincher won the Golden Globe for Best Director for 'The Social Network.' Later that year, Tom Hooper (a Globes nominee), took the Oscar home for 'The King's Speech.'
