The Golden Globes Best Original Score nominees include some of the best compositions written specifically for a film. The composer manages to set the mood for a movie with a great score. If a scene is particularly tense, for example, a great movie score makes it even more intense. Every year, five nominees are chosen in the Best Original Score category, with winners decided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). These nominees represent the very best when it comes to film scoring. Nominees for the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Score included Ludovic Bource for 'The Artist,' Abel Korzeniowski for 'W.E.,' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,' Howard Shore for 'Hugo' and John Williams for 'War Horse.' On January 15, 2012, the Golden Globe for Best Original Score was awarded to Ludovic Bource for 'The Artist.'

Nominees for the Golden Globes' Best Original Score include some of the most recognizable names in the industry. Multiple past winners, for example, include the incomparable John Williams (20 total nominations and 4 wins, for 'Jaws,' 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,' 'E.T.,' 'Memoirs of a Geisha' and, most recently 'War Horse') and Alan Menken (5 total nominations and three wins, for 'The Little Mermaid,' 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Aladdin'). In recent years, more and more mainstream musicians began scoring movies, with great success. In 2010, for example, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails teamed up with British composer Atticus Ross to score the soundtrack for David Fincher's 'The Social Network.' Reznor and Ross took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Score that year and went on to win the Academy Award in the same category. On December 15, 2011, Reznor and Ross were again nominated in the same category for yet another David Fincher film, 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.'
