The Golden Globes Best Supporting Actress Movie nominees include great actresses who gave outstanding supporting performances in their respective films. Unlike the Best Actor/Actress Golden Globe nominations, this category includes nominees from both comedy and drama movies. Five actresses are nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture Golden Globes each year, with winners selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Announced on December 15, 2011, Bérénice Bejo, for "The Artist," Jessica Chastain, for "The Help," Janet McTeer, for "Albert Nobbs," Octavia Spencer, for "The Help" and Shailene Woodley, for "The Descendants," were nominated for the 2012 awards. The winner of the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie was Octavia Spencer for "The Help."
The Golden Globes nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture includes veteran, multiple award-winning actresses who've appeared in dozens of films (Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett are good examples) and some newcomers, like Saoirse Ronan, who was nominated in 2007 for her role in 'Atonement' and Anna Kendrick, who received a nomination in 2009 for 'Up in the Air.' Recent winners of the Golden Globes Best Supporting Actress in a Movie include Melissa Leo for 'The Fighter,' Mo'Nique for 'Precious,' Kate Winslet for 'The Reader' and Jennifer Hudson for 'Dreamgirls.' Mo'Nique, Leo and Hudson all went on to win Best Supporting Actress Oscars after winning at the Golden Globes. Kate Winslet went on to win the Best Actress Academy Award for 'The Reader.'
