How to Contribute to an Ultimate List
No one individual gets to decide the order of a CrowdRanked list. Instead, we rely on the wisdom of the crowd to decide where various items belong. Over time, after hundreds of even thousands of Ranker users have voted and influenced the list, we'll get a very strong sense for how the community at large feels about these topics.

Find an Ultimate List That Interests You
You can find some of our recent favorite Ultimate lists right on the front page of Ranker. As well, clicking the blue Vote Lists button in the site's navigation will take you to the main Voteable Lists page.
Clicking on the title to any list featured (or the button marked "see full list") will take you to the Master List. The Master list is the aggregation of the votes and lists of every Ranker user who has participated on this list. You can also click the "add yours" button next to any list to go right to building a list of your own on that topic. - 2
Vote on the Master List
The Master List page itself looks like any other list on Ranker. You'll see the topic and a brief explanation at the topc of the page, and then the listed items in their current order. Next to each item are two icons:
- A heart: Clicking the heart icon indicates that you approve of including this item on the list, and you'd like to see it remain where it is or move up in the rankings.
- A frown: Clicking the frowny face means, naturally, that you disapprove of keeping this item in its current position, and would like to see it move down the list or disappear completely.
You can vote once on each individual item on the page. So if you think Julius Erving, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird all belong on the Top NBA Players of All Time list, you can click the heart button next to each of them. But no matter how many times you click the button, it will only register 1 vote per athlete.
Under each button, you'll see the number of other users who have voted for and against that item. - 3
Add Your Own List
Votes count towards the overall positioning of items in the Ultimate list. However, a better way to have MORE influence over an Ultimate list is to add a list of your own on that same topic. Selections made on your own personal list carry up to 20 times more weight than just voting alone.
There are a few easy ways to "ReRank" an Ultimate List, your way.The easiest way is just to vote on the things you like. Each vote will add that item to a list that you can build on, re-order and publish with a couple clicks. You'll see that as soon as you up-vote an item, a tab will appear on the right side that will keep track of every one of your up-votes. If you click on that green button that says "Your Votes", your list-in-progress will slide in from the right, already started and ready for you!You can accomplish the same side-bar list at any time by also clicking the "rerank this list your way" button at the top or bottom of the list. - 4
Edit Your ReRank On the Fly!
Once you've triggered your newly started reranked list, you will see it slide in on the right. Here you can re-order your list, write commentary on the items, add items that aren't already on the list, and change out images and video. If you want to really fancy-up your list, you can choose "Advanced Edit" at the bottom right of your new list, and go into a more option-heavy version of Edit that will allow you to write a list description, change the list image itself, add tags and more!Once you are done, click 'publish' and your list will get added to the consensus. Creating your own ranking of the list impacts the Ultimate List much more heavily than just voting. - 5
Compare Your List to the Crowd
After you are done with your re-rank, you can return to the Ultimate List to see how your picks differ from the Consensus. The little blue boxed numbers show where you ranked things, and if you want to see how everyone else ranked it, the little 'see all' dropdown next to the little user pictures will give you a full breakdown of how everyone else ranked the list.
