Being a Gen Y-er, I couldn't do Ranker.com justice without making at least one 80's themed list. So here it is, a list of the cartoons I used to lie to my parents about finishing my homework early in order to watch.

  1. "By the Honor of Grayskull..."

I was definitely a fan - I had the action figure, the horse, AND the water-action Crystal Castle! Not to mention a few dozen of the coloring books. On another note, a part of me now wonders if She-Ra really was He-Man's sister, as stated in the cartoon itself, or if she was his "sister" the way Sailor Pluto and Sailor Uranus were "cousins." You all know what I'm talking about...

  2. Fraggle Rock - a classic play on words...

I was only a fan of the cartoon because I was a fan of the Muppet-version first. I even still have my Scholastic Books Fraggle Rock bookmark from 1987. It's funny how this show reminds me of Final Fantasy... I wonder why.

  3. Two words: turtle power!

I watched this show so much, I actually still know all the words by heart the way I know all the words to the theme of Fresh Prince of Bel-air. My favorite turtle has always been Raphael. I felt his angst.

    AKA, Macron-1.

If it wasn't for Voltron, I would have never watched this cartoon. I have more memories for Macron-1 than any other Mechanime, I guess because I really got all into the characters. I remember being so mad that Kathy was dating Scott even though he was a jerk, and yet denied Jason, who was completely in love with her. Even the kid in the show had something to say about it. Wait a minute, why am I re-living that episode as if it was something that actually happened?

  5. Cross ThunderCats with Macross and what do you get?

Voltron began my addiction to all things mecha, and also was a favorite addition to my lunch box with matching thermos collection. And when is that movie supposed to come out... 2009, 2010, 2011?

I wonder if all those can lunchboxes had lead. I remember mines being heavy and it wasn't cuz of the peanutbutter sandwich inside...

The Real Ghostbusters at 8/19/2009 10:46 AM
This franchise is the perfect example of business FAIL. They've had a theme park attraction for the past decade over at Universal Studios... and they let Inspector Gadget beat them to a remake! Whats up w/dat?!

For those who mistreated their Joe's, you'd know there's a black rubber band in the middle... And they don't last long in the bathtub.

Michael Bay's cousin Fail Sucksalot will be directing the 2011 release... after they spend all their money buying the rights to the film, so there's no cash left to make it awesome.

This show was a soap opera wrapped in a Power Ranger's outfit. A pink Power Ranger.

Did Raphael ever become a villain? He was always on the fence!
    1. I don't remember Raphael ever becoming a villain, but I do remember this one comic where he definitely went rogue.

Way back I had the comic book series where the turtles split up because they thought April O'Neil was dead and blamed each other for her death. I remember Raphael leaving his brothers to team up with Mondo Gecko to go after the people whom they thought killed April.

Fraggle Rock at 8/19/2009 10:10 AM
Fraggle Rock always reminded me of those hyper-colorful Bollywood movies... or a Fritz-woodstock acid trip.

She-Ra: Princess of Power at 8/19/2009 10:07 AM
Those were the days... hours spent stealing my sister's She-Ra castle and assaulting her barbies "Gulliver-style" with my Gi-Joes.

    Thanks for the memories Nanashi

    Voltron at 7/23/2009 7:22 PM
Maybe not at all, now. I have a friend at the studio and she ominously told us that our youngest son could have all her Voltron DVDs because the studio was thinking about giving up on Voltron.
  13. Are you saying Sailor Uranus was a lesbian?? wow. I knew I should have watched more cartoons.
    1. Yep. The American dub pretty much rewrote anything remotely LGBT in Sailor Moon.

Oh my GOD you took me back there....your comment of having a lunchbox with the matching thermos!!!

I'm starting to think I'm the only one who preferred Voltron over Transformers, simply because my brother had a freaking obsession with Optimus Prime and I favored the Transformers' step-brother, Voltron, just to piss him off.

She-Ra IS He-Man's sister...just way hotter. I had the She-Ra mini-comic book that came with every doll package. So I not only had Catra and She-Ra, I had a freaking script for them every day.

    Top THAT! :0)
