Terrible men, all. While I'm sure that, as with anyone, the case could be made that these men were decent men with good intentions -- the fact remains that they failed to be decent men in the public theater. Each of them, in their own ways, used their seat of power to neglect and/or willfully destroy other people. All the good intentions in the universe can't change that fact. They bought into the snake oil pitchline that the end justifies the means. And I hope that none of them, past or present, slept well a single night in their political lives.
