List of the all-time best singers, based on a 1999 Mojo Magazine poll. Mojo readers chose the top popular music singers and vocalists from the 20th Century - with a focus largely on rock and roll - for the magazine's 66th issue. Included are a number of obvious choices, such as Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday, along with some less conventional voices, such as Bob Dylan or Neil Young. Nonetheless, each vocalist brings his or her unique style to their songs, and can give a variety of material a unique spin. (Consider vocalists such as Ray Charles or Smokie Robinson, as well, equally adept at performing their own original compositions as well as covers of other classic songs from different artists and genres.)
