Most Admired Companies of 2012
Who were the most admired companies of 2012? This list includes many of the world's most powerful companies, and a few surprises. What makes a company great? Aside from huge profits (especially in this economy), many would argue that being admired is key in any and all industries. This list does include all industries, from technology to retailing to insurance and investments.
Many of the most admired companies of 2012 were also listed among the most admired companies of 2011, so it's interesting to compare the differences. Companies that didn't make the cut in 2012 included Best Buy, Netflix, Yum! Brands, Sony and Lowe's. Apple topped the list both years, and once again, Berkshire Hathaway was among the top choices, no doubt in large part because of CEO Warren Buffett -- certainly one of the most admired businessmen in history.
It isn't easy to remain profitable, keep shareholders happy and be admired in the industry, but the companies listed here managed to do just that. Some accomplished their goals by helping (thankfully) to create new jobs in 2012, others managed to keep profits up despite the economic slowdown (no small feat). Hopefully, that trend (especially the adding jobs part) will continue in 2013.
