List Rules Films with the biggest budgets

List of the most expensive movies of 2013. As the old saying goes, it takes money to make money. In order to make a truly awesome movie, worthy of hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office, movie makers need a seriously huge budget. Special effects, world renowned actors, and the best directors don’t come cheap. Every aspect of the coolest movies take a lot of money to make, from the rights to use a certain character to the top costume design. If something in a film looks amazing, you can bet it cost more than the average house.

This list features the most expensive movies of 2013. With many of these films, where the money went is fairly obvious. In films like Man of Steel and Star Trek Into Darkness, the special effects are cutting edge and often beyond anything seen in film before. However, sometimes the big budget doesn’t coincide with the quality of the film, as with R.I.P.D. and Jack the Giant Slayer. Some of the films couldn’t even make back the cost of the film, like with The Lone Ranger.
