Most Indispensable Android Apps

Dot Commander Dot Commander 9,775 views 39 items 144 voters
The most indispensable Android apps allow users to perform almost any task from their smartphones and/or tablets, with just a few clicks. Whether it's an app that helps prevent sloppy typing (SwiftKey 3 Keyboard) or one that helps users find exactly where they need to go (Google Maps), these are the Android apps that many would be lost without. What are the most important Android apps you use? Vote them up! And add any apps to this list that you absolutely must have to function on a daily basis -- whether it's for business, or pleasure.

What defines "indispensable," anyway? It's an app for Android that provides some key function that you almost have to use to do anything. Certainly Words With Friends is fun, but is it truly indispensable? Probably not. Adobe Flash Player 11, however, is needed. Gmail is really important for communication. Arguments can be made that one app or another isn't truly indispensable, but that depends on the person. Don't let that stop you from adding Instagram because you love it, or Twitter if you can't stand to not know what everyone's doing all the time.

Now, it's time to vote: You decide what Android apps are the ones you'd be totally lost without.

Record and share your GPS tracks with My Tracks.

My Tracks records your path, speed, distance, and elevation while you walk, run, bike, or do anything else outdoors. While recording, you can view your data live, annotate your path, and hear periodic voice announcements of your progress.

With My Tracks, you can share your GPS tracks and stats online:
    - Via Google+, Facebook, or Twitter
    - Using Google Maps, Google Fusion Tables, or Google Docs
    - As a GPX, KML, CSV, or TCX file

My Tracks uses the GPS sensor in your phone to record geographic and velocity statistics, but the app also syncs with third-party biometric sensors, including:
    - Zephyr HxM Bluetooth heart rate monitor
    - Polar WearLink Bluetooth heart rate monitor
    - ANT+ heart rate and speed distance monitors (these require an ANT+ compatible phone)

My Tracks is an open source project. If you like to contribute, please visit:
