2008 Bonnaroo Review (sorta - mostly just rankings). 2008 was one of the alltime best Bonnaroos - huge headliner firepower, 2 days of Phil, and much more.
Brought it. I laughed for an hour straight. I think having to immediately follow an hour of bellowing laughter from about 50,000+ might have upped Metallica's game a notch.
Partial - but saw at least an hour, probably more. Most memorable was their version of "Anyday" - I'm not a huge fan of Trucks' singer but he absolutely NAILS that song - I had been praying to hear it since I saw a version of them doing it at one of those Clapton Crossroads fests I saw a broadcast of (embedded here)
This was their much-written about looong latenite set. Missed about 50 minutes in middle but found rest spotty. Too R&B for me. Rain didn't help. Though the last hour or so had many great moments - unfortunately we pooped out and missed the last 3 songs or so as well.
Partial (i respect Gogol Bordello quite a bit but they are just not my thing). I miss the Superjams, Bonnaroo seems to have paused on these since this one.
If not for really clueless security people (a rarity at Bonnaroo) causing jamups exiting to the guest parking area I wouldn't have seen at all since not a fan of the music - best lasers ever
