The best player in the world right now by a good margin. All he needs is a ring before people start accepting that he's playing about as good as anyone ever has.
The *other* player many people think of as the best in the game, though this has taken a hit the past couple months. With him missing time due to injury and his team playing so well without him, we may see his place here slip soon.
Nobody wants to take Dirk seriously as a "best player in the league" candidate, myself included. Year after year though, you just can't ignore the guy - he always seems to demand a spot in the top 5.
The lone great center in a league dominated by non-big men. He continues to be elite, but not quite at the level where a serious debate exists between him and LeBron.
The breakout young performer of the year. Many predicted this, but it's still a bit of a shock to see him no longer as a prospect but as a star shining brightly in the present.
These past couple years, Wade begs the question: Well, if the best player in the world played on a really bad team, what would it look like? Mediocre record, big time traditional stats and +/- stats. What more do you want from the guy? Well, last year he got accolade love right up there with everyone but LeBron - which I think is the most you can reasonable ask. This year, great as he is, everything's slipping a bit, so he slides out of the top 5.
Seems like I'm forever arguing against this guy. I do think people have been to quick to anoint him. I don't think there's any reasonable basis for debate between him and draft rival Chris Paul. But, the dude is quite good and he's earned his place here.
#10 is a bit of a toss up. Seems like we should have a Celtic, a Hawk, or a Nugget on this list, but every star player on those teams has some question marks beside him. Bosh is has taken it up a notch this year though and I think he deserves his place here.

Nah. It's true Kobe's got the more impressive skillset, but doesn't have the body that LeBron does. You don't need to throw up fadeaways so much when defenders just bounce off you.
