[UPDATE: The Oscars are going with old favorite Billy Crystal to host the big show this year. But that doesn't mean you should stop voting for who it SHOULD have been!]

The 2012 Academy Awards ceremony lost producer Brett Ratner and host Eddie Murphy in November, after Ratner stepped down from the production. (Ratner had come under fire for using a homophobic slur during a Q&A for his film "Tower Heist," which starred Murphy. A day later, Murphy himself dropped out of the show.)

Many names and suggestions have been thrown around for who would make a good replacement host, from controversial Golden Globes emcee Ricky Gervais to comedian and TV host Stephen Colbert to felt puppet Kermit the Frog. This list is designed to determine who would be the best 2012 Oscar host by collecting the votes and suggestions of the Ranker community.

      Although I have no problem with Billy Crystal, a more inspired idea would have been to brought back the original hosts of Comic Relief -- Billy AND Robin and Whoopi. That would have made for a better overall show and would have taken a little bit of the criticism off of them going back to "the old guard" (Billy) because of the reunion of the three of them would have been an EVENT!
