Oz The Great and Powerful Movie Quotes

"Oz The Great and Powerful" movie quotes put a new twist on the beloved tale of "The Wizard of Oz" with a prequel of sorts. Released by Disney on March 8, 2013, in 2D and 3D, "Oz The Great and Powerful" tells the story of the wizard's rise to fame in the events before Dorothy Gale ever landed in the mysterious land. Sam Raimi directed the film based on a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire.

In "Oz The Great and Powerful," Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is a lowly magician in a small town of Kansas. He desires to do something more with his life and sets out in his hot air balloon looking for greener pastures. A twister however takes hold of his balloon and transports him to a colorful and mysterious new land.

When he wakes, Oscar meets Theodora (Mila Kunis) and soon learns that he is in Oz, which also happens to be his nickname, and that they've been waiting for a wizard to arrive. Theodora introduces Oscar to her sister Evandora (Rachel Weisz) and while Evandora has her doubts that Oscar is in fact their wizard, she explains that the wizard must defeat the wicked witch in order to save everyone in Oz. He's then introduced to Glinda (Michelle Williams), the good witch, who provides him with the confidence, plus an "army" of munchkins, to help him in his epic battle.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" joins an early 2013 jam-packed with other great movies such as "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III," "Side Effects," "Identity Thief," "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," "Stand Up Guys," "Warm Bodies," "Bullet to the Head," "Movie 43," "Django Unchained," "Killing Them Softly," "Hitchcock," "Skyfall," "Lincoln," "Flight," "Playing for Keeps," and "Silver Linings Playbook."

    A Great One

Oscar Diggs: "Kansas is full of good men. I don't want to be a good man. I want to be a great one."

Like Dorothy, Oscar Diggs wants to do more with his life than what is available to him in Kansas. Also like Dorothy, he didn't imagine where the twister that hit his small town would send him and what adventures would await.

    Oscar Diggs: "Am I dreaming?"
    Theodora: "You're in Oz."
Oscar Diggs: "That's my name. Everyone calls me Oz."

As if it's not weird enough that his balloon was swept away by the twister to take him to a strange land filled with color, learning that this new place is named the same thing he is turns out to be quite the coincidence.

    He Is the Wizard!

Theodora: "Isn't he wonderful? Didn't I say he would come?"
Evanora: "You dare escort that oaf in here and allow him to climb on the hallowed throne!"
Theodora: "And why not? He is the wizard!"
Evanora: "The wizard, or so he says… Did it not occur to you that he might be an impostor, in league with the wicked witch and sent here to kill us? Theodora: "Wicked witch? Don't be ridiculous!"
Evanora: "I'm not the one who's underestimating her cleverness. Or maybe it's you I'm underestimating. Have you finally joined her side, sister?"
Theodora: "I am on no one's side. You know that. I simply want peace. That's all I ever wanted and the wizard can do that. He's a good man."
Evanora: "What do you know about goodness? Deep down you are wicked!"
    Theodora: "I am not wicked!"
Evanora: "That temper really is wasted on you."

In a sisterly spat, Evandora and Theodora express differences of opinion in Oscar's true nature. Evandora, who thinks everyone is evil, has her doubts but Theodora, while possibly a bit evil herself, is convinced that Oscar is the one.
