List Criteria: Only rappers who are known for their political or social commentary in their lyrics

By it's explosive nature and origins in cities, hip hop is political. Whether subversive or explicitly described, political rap has been one of the strongest genres of hip hop. Most political rappers are outspoken, which has endeared them to their fans and the communities whose viewpoints they represent. Political rap has been a thorn in the side of those who they oppose and often times are some of the most outspoken musicians. Political rap shouldn't be confused with conscious rap, though similar in some facets, but political rap refers to rappers who have strong political agendas.

So, who are the best political rappers? Any political rap list has to include the likes of Public Enemy, N.W.A., Lupe Fiasco, all of which are known for their strong political views. These groups are among the best rappers of all time and are some of the most important rappers ever. Political rap means rappers have to take a stand and say what they believe. Needless to say, if you're a fan of political rap, you appreciate what these rappers are saying.

That said, it's up to you to determine who is the best political rapper. The greatest political hip hop bands have strong followings so let your voice be heard. Thumbs up for the rappers you like, thumbs down for the ones you don't. This list answers the questions "who are the best political hip hop bands of all time?" and "who is the greatest political hip hop musician ever?" If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music instead of just voting for the most popular political hip hop bands that you might've heard of.(56 items)
