Emerging following the punk rock explosion, post punk-bands was a response to that initial movement. Known as a bit more experimental and artistic brand of punk rock, post-punk mixes classic punk with an assortment of other genres to create a sound that is still memorable today. The best post-punk bands emerged in the late 1970s, and many of these post-punk bands still retain a rabid following and remain popular today. In fact, many of the post-punk bands are considered the forebearers and influencers of genres like alternative music, goth rock and industrial music.

So that said, who are the best post-punk bands of all time? Any list of post-punk groups and post-punk artist must include The Cure, Joy Division, Depeche Mode and Siouxsie & The Banshees. These are widely known to anyone post-punk band as the some of the most important bands in the genre. The best post punk bands are included on this list and if you think an important post-punk band isn't on here, feel free to add them.

This is the list of post-punk bands. Vote up the best post-punk bands you think should be at or near the top of this list. All post-punk bands should be on this poll. Post-punk is one of the most popular genres of music, but you should be voting on the best post-punk bands, not most popular post-punk bands. This list answers the questions "who are the best post-punk bands of all time?" and "who is the greatest post-punk musician ever?" If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music instead of just voting for the most popular post-punk bands that you might've heard of. (91 items)
