have no respect for neil peart, every time i see his name above bonham, moon, baker, and paice i get enraged, im a drummer, and im twelve, john bonham is my hero, and as for peart if i had a 360 piece kit, i could be the best drummer of all time, RUSH SUCKS!

Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time at 2/06/2012 5:57 PM
since your only 12, no wonder you think RUSH sucks. they are light years ahead of what you could understand since they are the GODS of Heavy prog. here are a few lessons in life. #1 tastes changes in life. I bet you think dark chocolate sucks, when i was your age I hated dark chocolate, I love it now thou as do most older people. so with time you may learn to love RUSH an Neil Peart #2 LIVE your own life. just cause your MOM hates RUSH, dont follow what she thinks about music dont be a monkey hear monkey like type of person. #3 size does not matter. Sudd Webb was shortest basketball player to ever compete in a slam dunk competition an he WON it. so your "If i had 360 piece kit: does not mean anything
btw keep enjoying music thats why music is here, TO be enjoyed, if you dont like something thats fine there is always music you will love, an great to hear your such a young drummer keep the beats going

The folks over at Rollin Stone had to be 'stoned' when they put this list together!! Dennis Chambers should be in the top 10. Furthermore, some of the drummers should not even be listed in the top 10...Keith Moon??, Ian Paice?? They were fantastic during their era but not good enough to be on the top 10.

Hey im frickin 14 years old you little 12 year old crap... you suck and youll never get anywhere in life with that attitude towards rush... i doubt you could name 5 rush songs off of the top of your head. have you ever seen rush in concert? i didnt think so. obviously you didnt see john bonham cuz he died so how would you know? our just saying you like those crappy drummers cuz your dad likes them huh. your just a FOLLOWER!!!!!! RUSH IS THE BEST!!!! I agree that John is second haha but no one beats neil... hes just a beast that can play literally anything on a normal drum set. he was number one before he had a 360 kit and hell be number 1 forever. so go die little f*g... Rush is more intricate than your brain can ever imagine little daddys boy follower

Agreed to the ultimate degree. I've heard very few drummers better than The Rev. Certainly not Taylor Hawkins or Joey Jordison. We should petition to get The Reverend Tholomew Plague, Jimmy Sullivan, Rat Head, Fiction, on this list because it's a great injustice not to include him!

Rolling Stone, YOU ARE A JOKE! Placing Billy Cobham where you have is cause alone to shut you down forever. By the way, ever heard of Jack DeJohnette, Dave Weckl, etc. Not to mention Buddy Rich, at least!!! YOU ARE COMPLETE IDIOTS, AND YOUR WIPEASS PAPER IS A CRIME!
  20. JamesMcCollroy
Charlie Watts at 9/12/2011 10:46 PM
Well if you think he should be higher, it's because bobby keys, a saxophone player who played with the stones, taught Charlie Watts how to keep a fairly simple beat. Charlie wasn't really that good at all. he's not terrible by any means. But, he wasn't any buddy rich.
  21. Cal
Carter Beauford at 12/10/2010 1:44 PM
Carter should be much further up this list.
  22. JamesMcCollroy
Neil Peart at 9/12/2011 9:56 PM
Buddy Rich is the greatest drummer all-time if you actually like neil peart. Personally, I think keith moon is a better drummer than both considering he just said, let's make some fuckin noise. I also don't really care too much for Bonham, though I prefer him to peart by a large margin. Levon Helm from, "The Band" was never credited as being a great drummer. But his influential style is probably one of the greatest. Plus, what an awesome dude! Al Jackson jr kept really really good time. Timing is everything. If you don't have that, theres no reason to have anything else.

Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time at 5/30/2011 1:40 PM
What a joke. I'm better than 80% of this list and I'm able to play along with 99% of it. Where are all the jazz drummers? Joey Kramer is way better than his spot on this list. It's all people that are in mainstream or popular bands anyways. Where the hell is Graham Lear (Santana's drummer following Michael Shrieve)? Why is Jimmy Chamberlain not ranked higher? Alex Van Halen should be higher too.

Top three should be as follows 1. Keith Moon 2. John Bonham 3. Mitch Mitchel There is nothing more to say than that :)
  27. NameOptional
Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time at 4/22/2010 4:36 AM
This isn't an actual Rolling Stone list, they've never published a list of the best drummers. Karl, you're right, Helm deserves a spot, but considering its bogus origins maybe it's not a surprise he's left out.
  28. Gabby
Neil Peart at 6/14/2011 4:04 PM
Ringo is an incredibly average drummer who just so happened to be in a GREAT BAND.\nJohn Bonham was a great drummer who never came close to having the technical skill that Neil Peart has. Neil is hands down the greatest rock drummer alive. It's a shame Shannon Larkin of Godsmack didn't appear on this list somewhere! WTF!?
  29. tutotto8
Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time at 2/27/2011 8:22 PM

Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time at 4/20/2010 2:12 AM
I don't understand why Levon Helm isn't on the list. I'm not a musician, so I'd be happy to be enlightened. But I am always struck--when hearing other groups cover Band songs--that the thing I miss most is Levon's drums.
  32. Ben
Lars Ulrich at 12/07/2010 12:46 AM

Neil Peart at 3/08/2011 8:27 AM
If you want pure technical prowess, look to Mike Portnoy. Neil Peart combines technical prowess with playing that's about the song, not him. That said, neither of them play with the swing that John Bonham does (nobody does, for that matter). Bonzo's playing comes from his heart and his balls, not his intellect. I can go further and say that Buddy Rich's leaves them all in the dust. As far as playing for the song, Ringo and Charlie Watts leave everyone in the dust. Bottom line, you can't say who's hands-down the best. It all depends on what your criteria is. ALso, Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, not a musical genre.

Neil Peart at 6/08/2011 9:20 AM
you are stupid 12 year old kid yu don't know anything about music, Rush, or drummers. one John Bonham is drummer from the 70's and he is dead, also Led Zepplin are not even together anymore. Neil Peart has one every drummer pole awards from the day he started up to now, and HELLO have you seen Neil Peart's drum solos, john bonham didn't do drum solos. Your comment is incorrect Neil Peart is the greatest drummer that ever drew breathe on this Earth !

Steve Smith at 6/21/2011 6:55 PM
What?!!! Max Weinberg can barely keep time... and he'd admit it. Steve Smith should be in the top 10; Terry Bozzio shouldn't.\nWhere's Paul Humphrey, Art Blakey, Alan Dawson, Bernard Purdie, John Robertson, Jo Jones, etc?!

Dont get me wrong neil Pert is well respected but he is over rated. by todays standards if a drummer fits thats it there are many drummers out there that over play and also for show have way more equiptment than really needed.

No Buddy Rich? No Tommy Lee? No Mike Mangini? Who ranked this? How is Ringo Starr on anybody's best drummer list? That's nucking futs! I also think anyone who thinks there has ever been a better drummer than Neil Peart has no idea what drumming is. People say he has too much equipment, but those are people who would sit at his kit and c**p their pants! He has to get into it from under it! He is the best, ever. Hey where is Aaron Spears? Anyone seen his "Caught Up" solo? This list is BOGUS.
    1. dponcin
Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time at 5/25/2011 11:52 AM
Forgot to mention, I think Sib Hashian has always been under rated as well. He drove a band (Boston) that was cutting edge techno at the time and was awesome. He should easily have made this top 100 list. Everyone needs to stop being so generous with Keith Moon too. Not that great, just loud!

Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time at 3/19/2011 10:12 AM
Ok i have a huge problem and lets see who agree's with me. I can understand John Bonham being rated at #2 we was a all time Legend one of the best, I can also see Mke Portnoy being rated at #8, I pesonally think he is what makes Dream Theater what they are besides the guy is hands down is truley amazing, here is the problem, I cannot belive that they even list Phil Collins, he beat out NICKO MCBRAIN what the heck were they thinking the guy has no tallent Nicko has more tallent in his finger nails than Phil collins ever will, who ever was head of the best 100 drummers bumped their head that day Phil sould not have even been listed as a drummer, in my opinion John, Nicko, and Mike should be in the top 5 best drummers of all time, it sickens me to see how they rated Nicko, i feel he is the best and should be apreaciated and recognized better than that Nicko is absolutley Phenominal wach him very close sometime you will see. Give me a break, Phil Collins, come on what were they thinking!!

Buddy Rich is the greatest drummer of all time. So why the f**k isn't he #1 on this list? And where's Gene Krupa? You have to acknowledge the original great drummers on a list like this. And where the h**l is Dale Crover (from the Melvins)? He is extremely underrated. And Vinnie Colaiuta deserves to be in the top 5, he can play/sight read ANYTHING (be it genre or a written composition)! But the list still acknowledges a lot of good drummers, but it missed out on a lot more who deserve to be recognized. And it didn't put Travis Barker way high up on the list, hes a good drummer but hes just really over rated.

What a disservice to an awesome drummer. Tommy Aldridge should be in the top ten, maybe in the top five. Rolling Stone needs to wake up and smell the drum Kit.

Neil Peart at 10/02/2010 4:11 AM
How dare anyone say Neil Peart is a better drummer than... the dude from Deep Purple? Don't quit your day job kid, I have a feeling you're not gonna be a famous drummer.

Music is subjective to begin with, and therefore it's difficult to come up with a Top Ten of a given genre of music let alone a Top 100 Drummers of All Time ! There are people in the top Ten, including # 1 I've never heard of, yet I'm sure they're excellent players. But, let me just add a few who belong in any list, all of whom I've heard play in person. Elvin Jones, Louis Hayes, Buddy Rich, Richie Hayward, Art Blakey, Artimus Pyle, Jeff Porcaro, Mel Lewis, Gene Krupa, Art Taylor and Sonny Payne.

Glad to see Ringo where he is...others have ranked him in their top 10, which is absolutely ridiculous! Will echo what others have said about Buddy Rich...and what about Prairie Prince of Tubes, et. al.? Btw, Max Weinberg is also Springsteen's drummer..!

Dude seriously? Where the hell is James 'The Rev' Sullivan? Apparently the people at Rolling Stones are bat shit crazy. Anyone who knows anything about drumming would know that The Rev deserves to be on this list.

Are you kidding me? As good as some of the guys on this list are, it's outrageous that Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan isn't on here! I'm a huge System of a Down fan and agree that John Dolmayan should be where he is, but Sullivan should be in and towards the top!

A list of the top 100 drummers that does not include Joe Morello, Art Blakey, Louis Bellson, but includes Ringo Starr and Charlie Watts is not to be taken seriously. Now I'm not knocking Ringo or Charlie -- they were great in the Beatles and the Stones, and I enjoyed their drumming, but they don't belong on a list of the top 100.

I agree with you 100%. A list of the100 greatest drummers of all time without Joe Morello on the list almost makes the list laughable. It is equivalent to having a list of the 100 greatest mathematicians of all time and not including Euler, Gauss or Ramanujan.
