Songs About London, England
Excluded from the list are songs that only mention London along with other cities within the lyrics, and contain no specific content about the city itself. Some of the most popular rock songs of all time are featured on the list, many of them as a result of the "British Invasion" in which so much of the West's favorite music was coming out of the city. (The later Britpop movement also contributed a fair number of songs to the list, including hits from Blur, Pulp and Oasis.)
Many of the cities most popular and infamous thoroughfares have become well-known to the world by being mentioned in songs. Roads in London mentioned specifically include Warwick Avenue, Carnaby Street, Waterloo Street, Portobello Road, Baker Street (home to Sherlock Holmes) and Goodge Street. The London underground has also made a fair share of musical appearances, with shoutouts including "Euston Station" by The Oyster Band, "Circle Line" by Carmel and "Down in the Tube Station at Midnight" by The Jam.
Not all songs on the list are in praise of London, it's worth noting. Several selections by the Clash, Madness, Lily Allen's "LDN" and even the Rolling Stones' "Street Fightin' Man" take a more critical view of gritty day-to-day life in London.
