'Super 8' movie quotes represent some of the best lines in the sci-fi thriller movie, directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. This blockbuster film took the box office by storm when it was finally released (after literally years of waiting). Since it was released in June of 2011, 'Super 8' has raked more than $244 million worldwide. Enjoy these 'Super 8' movie quotes and be sure to vote on your favorites. Before the movie hit theaters, fans really had no clear picture of 'Super 8's' plot. All anyone really knew was that the movie included A. A Train Crash, B. A Monster and C. A Small, Normally Quiet Town Filled with Inquisitive Kids (and missing dogs). If you haven't seen 'Super 8' yet, I won't elaborate any more. Good news, though: The 'Super 8' DVD is (tentatively) set for release on November 22, 2011.
Cary: "Excuse me, can I have another order of fries? Because my friend here is fat." Charles: "At least I don't need a booster seat."
Boys will be boys. Even when they're stressed out about, you know, potentially life-threatening problems - never miss the opportunity to get in a few zingers.
Martin: "Am I the only one here who doesn't know what we're talking about?" Cary: "Probably, Smartin." Martin: "I don't like it when you call me that..." Cary: "I'm sorry, Smartin, let's go cry about it."
Great exchanges like this one make 'Super 8' much more than an action movie. Spielberg's influence is heavy throughout, but especially in the scenes with the kids.
Newscaster: "An eastbound freighter derailed. What the cargo was on that freighter we don't know."
Joe sees the newscast, and wonders himself exactly what he just saw (or didn't see). The key to this movie is whatever that train was carrying - and why the military doesn't want anyone to know what it is.
Yes Charles (Riley Griffiths), this is what we've all been saying as we've watched snippets, trailers and read countless articles about 'Super 8' for over a year now. What the hell, indeed.
Jack Lamb: "Nine people missing. Property damage. Theft. But there are things happening around here that I can't explain."
Obviously all heck is breaking loose in Deputy Lamb's small, normally quiet and quaint town. He's being stonewalled by the military about exactly what is going on.
Not all the quotes from Super 8 are serious and ominous - some of the best, funnest lines are reserved for the kids, especially Cary and Charles. Didn't everyone have a friend back in the day who had a bit of pyro in him?
Joe Lamb: (shooting Charles' movie) "I wouldn't have given you this information if we hadn't served together in Vietnam." Preston: "Those were bad times." Joe Lamb: "I'd rather not talk about it."
This exchange is yet another great example of humor balanced with the serious issues at hand. The gang is filming this 'war' scene as the real military scours Dr. Woodward's house. As Charles would say: "Production value!"
Alice Dainard: "We can't tell anyone we were there. We're not saying anything to anyone."
A very rattled Alice (Elle Fanning) warns Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney) that they've got to keep on the down-low about what they saw - and how they came to see it. This, as the group speeds away from the scene as quickly as possible. Oh, and are any of these kids old enough to drive?
Charles: (sees train coming) "Production value! Cary, you put film in the camera, right?" Cary: "I didn't put it in..." Charles: "What?!?!?!?!"
In this great scene, Charles realizes as they are filming his movie at the train station that he has a rare opportunity - actually using a real, approaching train in the film. Things definitely go down hill from there though...
Jack Lamb: "I've got nothing against your friends, I like your friends. But things have obviously changed for us." Joe Lamb: "I have to help Charles finish his movie." Jack Lamb: "It'd be good for you to spend some time with kids who don't run around with cameras and monster makeup."
Deputy Jack is giving some sage advice to his young son - but of course, the headstrong young man isn't having it. Little does he know that his involvement with his monster makeup-wearing, camera-wielding buddies will lead him on an unforgettable (and terrifying) adventure.
Deputy to Jack Lamb: "We've got calls coming in from people who've found local dogs - but the calls aren't local. It's like they all just...ran away."
The mystery about what happened to the town's dogs, including Joe's beloved Lucy, is featured in several 'Super 8' trailers. These dogs obviously sense something seriously wrong (i.e. WHAT is in that train car?!) and act accordingly - they high-tail it out of town. Fast.
Joe Lamb: "Bad things happen, but you can still live."
And bad, bad things are happening to Joe. He's suffered a major loss, seen a major train derailment up close and personal - and now? The military's taking over his small, quiet town, searching for God knows what. At least he has Alice...
Alice: "How am I supposed to be a zombie?" Joe: "Oh, um, uh, pretty much be a lifeless ghoul with no soul who dies...scary. Did you ever have Ms. Mullen for English?" Alice: "Yeah." (laughs) Joe: "Kinda like her, but hungry for human flesh, like she wants to turn somebody into a zombie - cause that's kinda what zombies do." Alice: "Okay."
Great suggestions from Joe to Alice, who seems to be trying to get into zombie character.
Louis Dainard: "I saw it. No one believes me!" Joe Lamb: "I believe you."
Victim Louis Dainard (Ron Eldard) utters this comment after seeing the...well...whatever it is. The monster. And it must be something, because he sure looks pretty traumatized in the trailer.
Colonel Nelec: "I don't want anymore trouble, do you?"
We bet Nelec doesn't want more trouble. He's saying this, of course, to traumatized victim Louis - in other words, he's hushing him up about what he saw. Louis might be well-served to keep his mouth shut, or he may disappear with the dogs.
Joe Lamb: "Have you seen Lucy?" Jackson Lamb: "I'm sure she's around here somewhere. I left you two slices in the fridge." Deputy Tally: "Oh, I ate those. Sorry, kid..."
As the police force gathers in his kitchen to discuss the strange happenings, they're oblivious to the fact that Joe may have some answers.
Dr. Woodward: "Do not speak of this. You don't know what is happening here. If they find you, you and your parents will be killed. Go!"
Nothing like a warning from a critically injured, gun-wielding, alien-chasing teacher to scare you to death. Dr. Woodward is trying to help the kids, making sure they're long gone from the train crash scene before the military shows up.
Colonel Nelec: "If you're asking me if we have dangerous persons on board this train, I can assure you the answer is no."
Yeah. Something tells me the good Colonel (played by the always brilliant Noah Emmerich) is lying through his steel-tipped boots. Deputy Jackson 'Jack' Lamb (Kyle Chandler) is gonna get to the bottom of this...I hope he survives. This definitely ain't E.T. we're dealing with here.
