Bill Murray is a bad ass.

    Bill Murray Does Karaoke with Complete Strangers

    The Story:

    A group of friends went out to have a few drinks at a local Karaoke bar called Karaoke One 7 in New York City. Mike, the guy who reported this story to authorities, noticed that there were a couple of women who had just walked in with a guy that looked just like Bill Murray... Because he WAS Bill Murray.

    After they did the good ol' "celebrity confirmation", they proceeded to invite Bill Murray into their Karaoke room.

    15 Minutes later Bill Murray knocks on their door.

    Bill Murray and the girl he was with, notably from Amsterdam who sang a bunch of French songs, bought everyone these weird green drinks made out of something called Chartreuse. After these Bill Murray himself sang an Elvis song with Mike and the group, of course, took a bunch of photos.













    Believable?

    The photos are pretty irrefutable, but the verdict is still vague. There have been a few discrepancies, first being exactly when this incident took place. It was also first reported that he showed up at Karaoke One with a group of women, then later corrected that it was one Dutch woman. The details aren't 100% clear; however, Murray is known for randomly crashing strangers' parties, so there's a good chance this one is true. And it is probably the realization of every Bill Murray fan's biggest dream.

    Bill Murray Surprise Bartends at Shangri-La at SXSW

    The Story:

    The story begins when Bill Murray attends Austin's SXSW festival and hangs out with Wu-Tang clan.

    He shows up with them at the Shangri-La bar and insists on bartending, only serving patrons shots of tequila. No matter what they ordered he would pour them a lot of tequila.

    Everyone there was Tweeting, Facebooking and blogging about it and someone even took a video:



    Throughout the rest of the week, Murray was spotted at various parties, including one Redditor's (a Redditor is a person who frequents the popular website Reddit.com) friend's house party:







    Believable?

    This story is widespread, and there's video to prove its accuracy. It also proves the extent of Murray's awesomeness. Who knows how many of the details and secondhand accounts are true, but the video is pretty indisputable.

    Bill Murray Thinks Autographs Are Boring, Films Slowmo Walk

    The Story:

    Like most celebrities, Bill Murray isn't a fan of being bothered for their autographs. Unlike most celebrities, it's because he finds them too impersonal.

    Apparently Bill Murray was doing a shoot for a guy, and that guy's friend asked him for an autograph. Instead of just writing his name on a piece of paper, Bill gave them something better. He filmed a slow motion walk down the hall with all the guys ala Wes Anderson.

    Bill Murray Accidentally Stars in Garfield

    The Story:

    Bill Murray sees the name "Joel Cohen" (THIS Joel Cohen) attached to the Garfield script, believing it's the famed director of Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink and No Country for Old Men -- Joel Coen... as in THIS Joel Coen (no H, you see.) Academy Award winning Joel Coen.

    According to Esquire magazine, Murray says "I looked at the script, and it said, 'So-and-so and Joel Coen.' And I thought: Christ, well, I love those Coens! They're funny. So I sorta read a few pages of it and thought, Yeah, I'd like to do that."

    Then he saw the movie. And only AFTER that did he realize that it wasn't Joel Coen, but Joel Cohen. No Fargo, No Country for Old Men or Big Lebowski, but Daddy Day Camp (The Sequel to Daddy Day Care), Evan Almighty and Cheaper By the Dozen Joel Cohen.

    "I kept saying, 'Who the hell cut this thing? Who did this? What the f**k was Coen thinking?' And then they explained it to me: It wasn't written by that Joel Coen."

    Although this might be the actor-celebrity version of sleeping with someone questionable and then claiming you were drunk, there's obviously no doubting the accuracy of the interview. It's just a shame that it took the movie being finished before Murray realized his mistake. But hey, every paycheck helps even someone like Bill Murray so why the hell not.

    Bill Murray Reads Poetry to Construction Workers Building NY's Poet House

    The Story:

    While the Poet's House, a library, was being built in Manhattan, Bill Murray stopped by to read poems to the construction workers who were working on the building. In the middle of reading, he says, "It gets worse. If you want to take a sick day, do it now." Workers laugh and take photos with their cell phones.

    Before He was in SNL, I was sitting in he 1st row at Second City with a buddy and we were both saying their lines for an "improvised" skit a beat before the cast. During the blackout after the sketch, Murray approached us both and threatened to punch our lights out for throwing off their timing. A little later, Bill came by an apologized, saying they had done that skit way too many times. We had a beer with Bill at Lum's after the show. His treat. Great guy.

    It's sad. I come from the country where alcoholism is a national disaster. I have a lot of personal experience of being around people who drink heavily. I know it's not accepted in American culture to treat drunks with compassion and people here believe that alcoholics are those who inherited bad genes and made wrong choices in their lives. What I feel like telling you now is that surprisingly most alcoholics are very sweet people. They are kind, soft and generous when they are not drunk and some of them even when they are. It's very heartbreaking to know that sooner or later they will kill the best part of themselves by the bottle. Bill Murray is just a figure that is quite bigger than just an alcoholic, and he should be seen by people as a person of a larger scale. It's very sad to realize that he drinks and will demolish himself completely very soon.

    What is wrong with humans? Who gives a crap about what he does with his personal life? I just accidentally came upon this site and you are all slightly neurotic about Bill Murray.       Kcc, I saw your comments earlier today. I didn't quite know how to respond with how I feel about what you said, so I've had to give it some thought. I am not going to defend anyone here for what they said (some of the comments are out of line), but your post is just plan mean. It's very negative, and is meant to insult, not to build anything. There are a lot of people who care about Bill Murray. Mr. Murray has no jurisdiction by which to govern how people feel about him. That could be for the wrong reasons, it could be for the right reasons.



      Here is what is on my mind. Juding people can be mean sometimes, but more often than not it is the kindest and most honest thing a person can do. It tells the truth, an aspect which seems to offend many people these days, and that is part of which I fear in the end, will be our undoing as a nation. If people spoke the truth more often, maybe we'd be in better shape, and lives that are in the pit of hopelessness may have a chance at seeing an avenue of redemption; but no, they are too busy sitting in a dark sink hole while listening to the lies people tell them which tickle their ears, and tell them what they want to hear; not what they need to hear.



      Elbruce is right. Bill Murray is an alcoholic. If Anonymous is correct, then it wouldn't be any surprise that his life choices may end his life. The sad thing is, Mr. Murray has children, and children learn from their parents. Alcoholism is a generational condition, and it breaks my heart to know at least one of his kids will idolize their father so much as to follow his path and end up the same way; hopeless. Destitute. Wanting. Hungry and in the end, maybe even suicidal because unfortunately, just as King Solomon learned in the book of Ecclesiastes, we cannot choose things in our own lives to bring us sustainable satisfaction. That is only found in God. I have prayed for Bill Murray for a very long time (years), and will certainly pray for his loved ones, as well. I am very concerned by the thought that his children may grow up seeing their father's life choices as honorable, and worthy for their own lives.



      Here's what else breaks my heart. There are a lot of young people who have never met Bill Murray, and yet they idolize this man. He's never spoken against his life's choices, and yet these people only see his fame, his riches, and everything just on the surface, but never know how miserable he is. In their minds, if they live their lives the same way Bill Murray has, they too may find success. If Bill Murray does not come forward to tell the truth about himself, about his choices, the consequences, and does not open his heart enough to others for him to be honest with himself and about himself, the "image" who Bill Murray is will one day when he meets God, die with him. As such, Bill Murray would have no legacy other than that of a druggie, a drunkard, and a man who lived his life imprisoned to himself. There would be no happy ending and with that, his life and death would both be in vain. As Solomon put it, it would be utterly meaningless.



      Before you cast judgement upon other people on this board, please give this some thought. Sometimes, a person surrounds him/herself with people who give them what they want, not what they need, and so they never hear the truth. It would be nice if Mr. Murray were to read this board, and be convicted within his heart enough to do what is right. I'm not sure he knows what that is, and that is worse than sad. It is heartbreaking.

    Humble? Humble enough to grab another chance at booze? It was free but hey, he's a great guy. He did the dishes. Yeah, that's the definition of humility. I am being sarchastic, because no it's not.



    This man needs help. Badly. Has anyone ever cared enough about this man to help him get it? How about some tough-love? I would done anything short of chained him to a bed-post until he dried out, if that's what it took to get him away from what I knew could eventually cost him his life. For that matter, when somebody who I love is involved, I might even go that far if that's what it would take to save his life! Sorry Bill, but you can't pump orange juice from an oil well. If the oil well is where you go, oil is what your gonna get back. It's black, and combustible, just like the life-path of a true-blue alcoholic who can't man up to his sickness.

      I married into his family and know that if he had a problem they would be the first to tell him. He has some of the smartest, nicest, gracious kids I have ever met. He is truly a family man and a gentleman. I think that many times when he goes out like this he is playing a character.

    I have seen so many movies, but the one I recall of him was scrooged back in '87. I was a 12 year old, living in Puerto Rico, watching this movie and wondering how can someone be so acid and charming at the same time in just the right amount to say f%++ menudo, I want a man like that in my life. Many years have passed. I wisj I could tell him: "Hey, I did a good life for myself and I think you contribute to it in some "weird way".     Bill was a remarkable talent long before he joined the cast of SNL. He was still fresh out of Second City when I first met him at a small community theater we called The Drama Shelter located on Halsted near Armitage. Bill was an unusual kind of guy.. he was always improvising and rarely sticking to the script which was frustrating for those of us who depended on cues when our lines came up. I have to admit, the play we were doing was pretty bad and everything hi improvised was at least as good as what the playwright had authored.. but it did throw us a curve and forced us to improvise as well. Bill was naturally funny and had tremendous confidence.. enough so that he tackled a role which was completely against his grain.. namely a latent homosexual. Don't get me wrong.. Bill is all man and totally straight.. so you can imagine what an awful production this turned into, especially considering that the character Bill plays best is Bill .. kinda like John Wayne. Anyhoo, he bowed out of that disaster in very short order and not long afterwards began appearing on SNL. We were all amazed at his rapid growth in pop**arity and the guts he displayed when addressing the SNL audience as "the new guy" and asking, point blank, for our support. I think that's what we all love about him.. his fearless integrity. Later, when he came back to host SNL, I could see on Eddie Murphy's face that Bill had totally deviated from the script again. I guess some things never change.

    Bill Murray was not the voice of the Garfield cartoon, but that's still a pretty interesting comment. The voice of Garfield in the Garfield and Friends cartoon was Lorenzo Music, who had a very distinctive voice that was similar to Murray's. One of the other Saturday morning cartoon characters Music voiced was Peter Venkman in the Ghostbusters cartoon. In the films, that character was played by Murray, so it's just interesting that Music played a role in the Ghostbusters cartoon that Murray had made famous, and then a decade and half later, Murray played a role in the Garfield films that Music had already made famous

    I got a great Bill story. I was at a party in Manhattan, and the theme was S & M. I was dressed in full leather, with a tail, and all. I was looking pretty hot that night, I thought. Well someone points to the door and says hey look it's Bill Murray. Sure enough, it's him. I don't know if he knew someone there, or if he just heard about this party. So he's dressed like a chambermaid, except he's wearing panties with the rear cut out, and his cheeks are on display to all. And he grabs someone's whip and comes up to me and says, may I? So I said sure, and he starts whipping me, very gently (he is quite a gentleman). Then, while he's whipping me he takes out his cell phone and calls his mom. He spends the next 45 minutes arguing with her about whether or not she should get a new hot water heater for her house. Finally he says, ma I gotta go I got a girl here who needs whipping! We both had a lot to drink, so I don't remember a lot of what happened afterward. Cut to the next morning - I wake up naked, tied to my bedposts, covered in cream cheese, except for my stomach, which has an elaborate drawing of a Chinese tiger done with henna on it. Under the tiger was a banner with the words, Thanks for the Poultry Lisa! To this day I don't know who Lisa is, but that's typical Bill - he is such a riot!!

    I truly believe that these stories are true. My niece works for Bill's cousin just outside Chicago and he was coming in to fulfill some commitments. so she when with to pick him up at the airport with her bosses wife. well on the way back my niece mention that her Dad was sick with cancer without missing a beat he said let's go see him so they drove over to his house and he walk up to the door and rang the door bell and when my brother answered the door he freaked. well Bill stuck around for about a hour or so. they took pictures together, he signed some golf balls for him and his father in law and myself. he singed it "Bill Murray OK". My brother could not stop talking about it up until he passed away four months later. For him to take time out of his day for a little fun was awesome. I wish I could thank him in person and some day I will..

    To add to this story... On this same evening, I left the Fader Fort, a sxsw music venue, on my way to another show when I passed by a parking lot and hear Wu Tang playing. I had to check it out, so I go up to the stage b/c there's barely anyone there, and my friend tells me to look who's standing right next to me. It turns out to be Bill f**king Murray with a gorgeous girl. "Wu Tang ain't Nuthin ta F**k With" comes on and we decide to roll a joint. Of course we ask Bill if he'll partake. He obliges. We smoked some more, and he took off a few songs later to apparently bartend at Shangri-La. This might help explain some of his behavior.

    This happened back in the mid or late seventies. I'm at a N.Y. Met's game at Shea Stadium with my dad (Me, late teens) When I remark to my dad that the guy behind us looks just like Bill Murray. He turns and looks at him and says no. I can't help staring from time to time when we finally make eye contact and he has that quirky smile of his light up. Getting up as casually as I can, I walk up to him trying real hard not to be noticed by the general public. (I'm sure all he wanted to do was to watch the game incognito). I sat in the seat in front of and turn back to him to say how much I enjoyed him and Sat. Night Live. He takes my program(I didn't ask for an autograph, but secretly wanted one) and signs away. At this point I'm stunned and in awe when the stadium loud speaker says," Shea Stadium wishes to Welcome Mr. Bill Murray Blah blah blah...) He looked at me and shrugged, waved to the crowds and got up and left. For years I felt that I blew his cover somehow. (I was a teenager after all) I owe Mr Murray a pair of Met's tickets.     I heard this story about Bill Murray from a Friend's dad who went to High School with him. He was in detention and was told to write a 1000 word essay on Christopher Columbus's discovery of the new world. 10 minutes into writing, he hands his paper to the Brother (him going to a catholic school) who reads it and starts to laugh to himself. He dismisses Bill and reads to the class, "If anybody was wondering what Bill Wrote, let me read it. In 1492, Columbus set sail for the new world, he had 3 ships, the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. It took a very very very very very very very.... Very long time. "

    In the late 80's, Bill Murray came see if he could cheer up any of children in the Emergency Department, where I worked, in Durham, NC. One of my co-workers did not recognize him, but told him he looked familar, while rubbing his chin and searching Bill's face...he said "I just don't know where I know you from" Bill then told him his name and asked my co-worker "are you from Hooterville or what?" My co-worker said, "no, actually Hendersonville" still not recognizing the SNL star. Boy did we all have a laugh and my co-worker did too, once he realized who Bill was.

    My girlfriend was in a hotel in Chicago for an event, and when she got off the elevator, Bill Murray was getting on. She said, "Right this way, Mr. Murray." He replied without breaking stride, "That's Doctor Murray to you," gets in, and disappears. Classic moment, but not done yet. She was early for the event, so went to the bar. She hears somebody calling to her in a high-pitched, increasingly insistent voice, "Nurse, excuse me Nurse!" She turns around. It's Bill freaking Murray. He buys her a drink and they have a nice chat while he waits for somebody he's meeting to talk him into a movie he didn't really want to do. I think it was Scrooged. Here's the part that makes it tantalizing: I found out later that my girlfriend was a pathological liar, so I can't be sure this is true. But it sounds SO MUCH like what he would do, and I just can't believe she could make up dialogue that perfect. Who knows?

    Number 3 is true. Everyone in Austin knows about it and talks about it. Bill's great. My girlfriend's brother lives in New York and he's heard several stories where Bill Murray will walk up behind someone, tap them on the shoulder, and when they turn around and see that it's him he just says "Your friends will never believe you" and walks away. Hilarious.

    Bill Murray attended a punk rock show on a bridge SXSW '10, people were throwing beers. The cops came and broke it up. He stood beside me for part of it, talked to the band Mount Righteous and got their cd. He smelled very nice. and the video :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI-KR085WYQ

    I have one more story to add to this: My friend Phillip works retail at Disneyland. One day a co-worker was stocking some shelves, and someone came up behind him, put his hands over the employee's eyes - covering them - and said, "Guess Who?." The employee turned around, and it was Bill Murray!!! Bill Murray gave him a smile and beamed, "No one will ever believe you," then strolled away. You've got to love this guy!!

      i've got one! i was playing video poker at the continental (now "terribles's") in las vegas late one night. this guy comes up to me and says "my friend bill over there wants to know if you'd like to join us for dinner". i'm like, what? he points over to "bill" who's standing across the casino in a trench coat, waving, and it's bill murray. i got flustered and declined, the guy goes over and talks to bill, came back and over said "bill wants to know why you don't like to eat!" still kicking myself for being shy!
