The Best Historical Christian Fiction By   [2 more lists]

A list of the best historical christian fiction. These are novels featuring a prevalent christian theme. With between a quarter to a third of the world's population practicing Christianity, these books serve a wide fan-base. With this in mind, despite the christian themes, the stories within these texts can vary as much as any other type of book. If the author is skilled enough, subtext may also play a key role as the reader may not even realize they are reading a story with a christian theme. Sometimes it may be more obvious as the characters are religious figures such as priests, nuns, or even Jesus Christ himself. Suffice to say, christian fiction is an eclectic genre not just for the faithful, but for anyone who enjoys a good story.

I haven't heard of most of these, so I guess I've got a bunch of great books to add to my reading list! Right now I'm reading "Jesus and Buddha" by Ed Sherman. It's a wonderful book - the author takes a historical and comparative approach to the teachings of Christ and Buddha. He applies many of Buddha's teachings to western Christianity, which is fascinating and makes for a beautiful read.

Good roundup. I especially like that Journey to the Well is on there- definitely one of my favorites. I'd add "The Lost Moonflower" by Isaac Karoor - http://thelostmoonflower.com/

It's a great read about Phoebe, from Romans 16:1. She isn't discussed in detail in the bible, but her contributions to the early church are rather intriguing. I'd definitely recommend it.
