The gremlin known as Lil Wayne made a love song... I guess if you can call it that. Yes, this song was every girl's Facebook and Twitter statuses for weeks. It reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 solidifying Wayne as a RnB crooner unlike any other.
Let's get one thing straight. We all hate Chris Brown, however, every once and a while we let him have a hit. 'She Ain't You' is that one hit he is allowed to have. Sampling some MJ and mimicking his dance moves in the music video was a smart ploy to garner sympathy to his cause, but the song is so dang catchy you just have to listen over and over again!
A late entry into the Summer of 2011 playlist, this song sampled some fantastic has- been known as Avril Lavigne and it worked to the best of both there careers! Currently soaring up the charts, it has yet to be seen how big an impact this song will have, regardless, you know you drunkenly sang the chorus at least once during the summer!
While the song is relatively new, the song has that infectious beat that we all know we will be hearing months after the Summer of 2011 ends! Hitting #1 in New Zealand and currently a top 20 song in the US and the UK, this song made Cobra Starship finally lay to rest the "one- hit wonder" stigma they had after "Good Girls Go Bad"
Love the song, the video and heck even the message behind the song. Although US audiences embraced the song in a more underground fashion (it hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart) it went top 10 in countries around the world.
Jason Derulo is that cat you know you have but only shows up at random times. That is why he must repeat his name at the start of EVERY ONE OF HIS DAMN SONGS. Regardless of this, his song hit the Top 20 in charts all around the world, even hitting #1 in the UK. Congrats Mr. Derulo, you may be the forgotten cat but you are the efficient cat who strings up a hit every once in a while.
While '4' may be a little unappreciated Beyonce has no need to care, it's the best thing YOU never had. Going top 20 in countries all around the world for a few weeks before dropping off the face of the planet, 'Best Thing I Never Had' definitely is not as bad as 'Run the World' but lacked that extra oomph we all expect from Beyonce.
David Guetta (feat. Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida) - Where Them Girls At?
Nicki Minaj sounds like the hampster from the hampster dance. Phew, there I said it! You all know it was on your minds too so don't lie! The song that almost wasn't after it leaked became a huge party anthem going Top 20 in countries all around the world. Damn you's a sexy... oh whoops wrong song.
The typical one trick pony (or band in this case) that comes out every summer. Hot Chelle Rae and there hit 'Tonight Tonight' will probably only ever be known for this one song before fading into obscurity, but hey, reaching the Top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100 is a huge achievement!
Brit-Brit had a big hit- hit y'all! Was it the stuttering or the catchy beats behind the song that made this one so big? My personal favorite off of her new album "Femme Fatale", 'I Wanna Go' became a Top 40 hit around the world in addition to hitting #7 in the US.
Pitbull (feat. Afrojack, Nayer, Ne-Yo) - Give Me Everything
So close, but unfortunately Pitbull could not clench the top spot. His song was a smash hit though, becoming his first number one hit in the US. This song was just what Ne-Yo's career needed, and the song that finally allowed Pitbull to break through into the big time and officially declare himself Mr. 305, congratulations you may not have been #1 on this list, but it doesn't matter I am sure you will have a string of hits in 2012!
So this song came out like 5 years ago and just now people decided to listen to it. I kid, I kid, but yes this song was released in 2010 but really picked up steam in 2011. Reaching the Top 10 in the US and Australia the song showed it's long legs and made Lupe have the hit he finally deserved.
That damn whistling. OneRepublic proved that they weren't just the band that played that onedepressing song (cough.. APOLOGIZE... cough cough) Hitting number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, the boys of OneRepublic have a 'Good Life' indeed.
The song that made Katy a legend. Racking up 5 consecutive #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, 'Last Friday Night' brought Katy Perry to MJ status when she achieved this landmark that for over 20 years only MJ had to his name. Will she go for 6? Only time will tell!
LMFAO (feat. Lauren Bennett, GoonRock) - Party Rock Anthem
The undeniable SMASH hit song of the summer. You could not escape hearing this song all summer. Going #1 in the US, UK, Germany, Ireland, Australia and the list continues! No one could escape the "Shuffle" not even this list, which is why "Party Rock Anthem" is the song of Summer 2011!
Oh GaGa, after 'Judas' flopped hard, she needed a hit to save her "Born This Way" era. Luckily she brought out the big guns and released the song that made even non- GaGa lovers like her. The song reached the Top 10 in countries around the world and made the world sit on the "edge" of their seats to see what she would do next.
Boom Bada Boom Boom... He got that SUPER BASS. Yes Nicki Minaj sang those lyrics with her highest charting song to date. This was the song that made Nicki a household name. Reaching the Top 10 in the UK, US, Australia and even Canada, this song could not be stopped.
The indie song that broke into mainstream networks. Not even the creepy lyrics behind the song (yes it is about gun control) could stop the song from becoming a hit. It continues to creep steadily up the Hot 100 charts sitting pretty in the Top 10 currently. Will it hit #1 only time can tell!
You know you sang this song at least once this summer. It was inescapable to the point where you wanted to Adele down a hill. She was virtually unstoppable the song hit #1 in a sleu of different countries including the US and the UK. In addition, her second album 21 has become unstoppable on the Billboard 200 album charts.
