The Funniest Stand Up Comedians in Entertainment
THE TOP 60 (as of 01.18.2013--people get better, ya know?):
I'm talking about people who actually did stand-up as a large part of their careers, not just people who were mostly comic actors (good performances on TV, podcasts & interviews definitely helped comics move up on this list, though).
Longevity (size of creative catalog) was considered, but it's also a huge disadvantage for people who, through no fault of their own, haven't been alive as long. At the same time, as people get better they can move up, while the older folks can only move down. The way I ended-up ranking these folks was based on:
1) their peak (how hard did I laugh at their best set?)
2) their originality (did they come up with a new thing or adapt someone else's style?-- i.e. Mitch Hedberg from Steven Wright)
3) their social impact (did they work in progressive philosophy, social justice & introspection into their comedy...or just joke about food & airplanes?)
Enjoy & discuss...
