In speaking to Clary, Hodge explains how the worlds really work as compared to what she previously knew as reality. Hodge tells Clary that the truth is that she is not ordinary or normal and it's time she embrace that fact.

You Don't Need to Encourage HimAlec Lightwood: "Jace thinks he needs to save the world, but you don't need to encourage him to do it."
Alec tries to reason with Clary in hopes that she can talk Jace down from his plans to save the world. While everyone wants to keep the shadowhunters save, what Jace is attempting is extremely dangerous.

As Alec tries to point out, Jace will stop at nothing to take down the evil forces, even if that means taking risks that could have deadly consequences for his entire crew. To Alec, having Clary on their team is one of those risks.

Madame Dorothea: "Your mother was a shadowhunter, like him… like you."
The more Clary learns about this secret world of shadowhunters the more questions she has. Specifically, she wants to know how her mother is involved but again, the truth may shock her.

Jace Wayland: "You're not a mundane."
Clary Fray: "What is a mundane?"
Jace Wayland: "Someone from the human world"
Clary Fray: "If I'm not human, what am I?"
Jace Wayland: "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
To get a better understanding of what she's seeing, Clary confronts one of the figures. Jace gives her a hint as to what's going on but warns her that the truth might just be unbelievable.
