Everyone gets very excited about 1984, but Brave New World is so much better. In 1984, it is clear that the system is bad and it has no support. Its a boring book. At least in Brave New World you have intelligent characters arguing for the dystopia.

What? Catcher in the Rye?! Ivanhoe? Jane Eyre? You can't really be serious saying that these are overrated... I admit that some you said were right on the mark - need I say Dan Brown and one with a recent Julia Roberts adaptation? Sadly, Tolstoy and Joyce, both excellent books, are usually marked as feats of endurance or, god forbid, blatant displays of intelligence. I read them, because they were good. I didn't read them just because they're "books that make you look good". Just take books as they are!
