The Most Timeless Video Games

The first person shooter genera may not even exist if it hadn't been for this game. It certainly made FPS very popular anyway. Even though the graphics are a bit crude by todays standards, the AI, level design and the fun of blasting ugly monsters with huge guns is as fresh today as it was back then. Really there is nothing that todays FPS games have over this game other than fancier graphics.

This game may well be the best puzzle game of all time. It has certainly enjoyed the longest life and the most versions of any puzzle video game I know of. Even after all these years, it is still addictive.

PC gamers and dungeon crawler enthusiasts rejoiced in 1996 when this game came out. Its been popular ever since. In fact, you can still buy a new copy of this game. That you can play this game on any version of Windows from 95 through Windows 7 without any fuss is a testament to great game coding. The game itself is still fun to play. It has great music, clever writing and graphics that still hold up. They haven't called a ton of dungeon crawler games that came out after this one 'Diablo-clones' for nothing!

Back when flight simulators were the kings of PC gaming, this game came along and created the perfect storm. It combined some fairly sophisticated flight sim aspects with one of the most popular game IPs of all time: Star Wars. It may not be the first flight sim ever, but it was the first to make flight sims really fun. Quite possibly the best use of a movie license in video game history. You really feel like you are flying an X-Wing and blasting TIE Fighters in this game.

This game is quite possibly the best RTS game ever made. It is so good that gamers still have huge tournaments for it every year. As with Diablo, game developers have been copying this game for years. When a new RTS comes out, the inevitable question gamers ask is "Well, is it as good as Starcraft?"
