Olmedilla Park, Spain
Costing around $530 million, the Olmedilla Park generates around 60 MW of electricity on a sunny day, using 162,000 solar panels. 40,000 houses can be powered by the solar panels here, which are made of silicon and took around 15 months to be completed. The Olmedilla Park sits just outside the fantastic and cultural city of Barcelona, and produces electricity for the public sector and reduces emissions by 440 metric tonnes. - 2Up 5Down 1
Puertollano Park
Developing enough electricity to power 39,000 households, the 50 MegaWatts generates enough clean energy to replace 2.1 million tons of CO2 over 25 years. This area of Spain is one of the sunniest areas in Europe so is an ideal location to have a solar power station. Spain is home to two amazing solar power stations, as the large agricultural areas and fantastic weather conditions provide the ideal environment for a solar power station. - 3Up 2Down 1
Moura Photovoltaic Power Station
Situated in a poor area of Portugal, the Moura solar power station was built for £250 million and can supply 45 MegaWatts or 30,000 homes and covers an area nearly twice the size of Hyde Park in London. The aim of the alternative power station was to reduce dependance on oil and gas, and has been estimated to generate 31% of clean energy by 2020. - 4Up 2Down 1
Brixton Energy
This exciting local project aims to use the roofs of 5 of the housing blocks to provide communal areas with electricity. 45kW solar panels will be used, providing lighting for residents and it is estimated at the height of summer, the project will be producing enough electricity to provide over 70 houses on the estate. This project shows how targeting areas using electricity which can convert to renewable energy resources can benefit local people in the area. - 5Up 1Down 0
Oklahoma VA Medical Centre
A $4.6 million solar panel system is being installed, which will supply 5.5% of the facility’s annual needs. This is added to to the $56.7 million contracts which the Department of Veteran Affairs have made available to build 5 new solar panel systems in a bid to reduce energy costs and support renewable energy resource technologies. The 1 Megawatt system covers the car park of the medical centre, providing shade from the sizzling sun and plenty of electricity for the buildings used by the medical centre.
