The very best of the Conspiracy Keanu meme allows us to not only ponder some pretty wacky conspiracy theories but also do it as Keanu Reeves and his character, Ted, from the comedy film "Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure." Sure we could wonder about if Santa is real but we're just all too naughty for presents and if dinosaurs were made up to scare us away from time travel using our own paranoid minds but using Conspiracy Keanu's is much funnier.
Though the movie "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" was released in 1989, the Conspiracy Keanu meme didn't surface until 2010. New York Magazine's Vulture Blog grabbed the screen capture that would later be used for the Conspiracy Keanu meme, when Ted was being chased by medieval knights, and ranked it a four on the "Kean-U-Meter" in a piece titled "Vulture's Complete Field Guide to the Facial Expressions of Keanu Reeves." Shortly thereafter, someone on the Fark forums saw the potential in the image, added a caption and the Conspiracy Keanu meme was born.
In late 2011, the Conspiracy Keanu meme blew up and within months websites like BuzzFeed and Reddit had created thousands of the image macro images, each complete with an interesting conspiracy theory about one topic or another. One pondered if professional sports were rigged and the so-called fake sport of pro wrestling was actually the only real one. Another asked if computer viruses were simply a ploy to sell antivirus. Even a theory about dryer lint was presented as Keanu wondered what happens to those lost socks.
Conspiracy Keanu might not give you the typical words of wisdom like other advice animals such as the Courage Wolf
or piss you off like Scumbag Steve
but it will let you think about the important things in life, like if elbows are really delicious but we'll never know because they can't reach our mouths. The world may never know.
